So, the judge declined to order to what federal prosecutors and defense counsel agreed to. This is certainly spicy.
(Not saying the judge is wrong to do so, just saying it’s rare that a judge overrules what the DOJ is seeking).
What’s concerning to me is the following:
> U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan did not provide reasons for the denial, and said a hearing on bail remains scheduled for Feb. 9.
I think if a judge is going to rule from the bench and decline a stipulated agreement of the parties…the judge ought to be able to give some insight into why. Not just a “nope, because dad said so”.
When I was doing more active practice, on my pro bono domestic violence cases (which was always on the side of the survivor of the violence) I’d always try to kindly request that if the judge was inclined to rule against me on any grant of a restraining order that he put his findings of fact in a written opinion so that it could be preserved for appeal.
That said, this dummy is tampering with witnesses and deserves to be in jail until trial.

As a progressive - fuck these clowns.
Build more housing and tell the suburban nimbys to shut the hell up. Ease up on suburban zoning that requires an acre and 120’ of frontage for a SINGLE home dwelling. Allow more dense multifamily constructing.
Rent control really doesn’t do shit to help folks overall.
It locks people into current living situation. It makes the housing market less liquid and doesn’t create any new beds for all the folks who want housing.

Yup.
Grifter: “Hey, wanna be really shitty and make some quick money off of other people’s misfortune?”
Mormon: “Okay…you have my attention, go on.”
Grifter: “Well, you know when someone gets really hurt and is going to obtain a settlement for their injuries? Often times they have huge medical bills they need to pay now. We will lend them money and charge insanely gouging interest rates to profiteer off of their misfortune while they wait for their settlement checks to arrive, which can take years.”
Mormon: “Oh, interesting, what do you charge for interest? Ten percent? That’s why I tithe to Heavenly Father for all he gives me!”
Grifter: “Oh frig no. More like fifty percent! Now…can I count on you to write us a hundred thousand dollar check so we can lend it to injured people in a very un-Christlike way?”
Mormon: “I was thinking more like a million. Can I tell my friends about this too? They would be interested.”
Grifter “Bless you Brother Levi, and make sure to tithe the church 10% of your profits”
Mormon: “I sure will. Heavenly Father would be very proud of what we are doing here.”

Why doesn’t Texas try to put a cap on how much harmful cancer-causing crap a company can put in its products? (instead of capping how much you can sue them for when they do?)

You probably interpreted the bartender as rude because you aren’t the aficionado of jazz bars you think you are.

Owning multi-million dollar property that you bought decades ago for next-to-nothing allows you to do a lot of things.
And selling $30 sandwiches to a corporate crowd for 3 hours a day (because that’s the only goddamn time folks eat lunch) is one of them.

Fuck. Those. Weak. Ass. Abuse. Enablers.
A history of domestic violence is the single biggest predictor of violent crime.
Any prosecutor who turns a blind eye to domestic violence should be fired on the spot.

Undercover cops should only be used for stakeouts and court-approved warrant operations.
Police should never be doing this bullshit unmarked car traffic citation crap. Why would a motorist trust that an unmarked car is really a cop?

Can you post another update after a week or so? If your trend holds up…wow.
My concern would be that 18 hours might not be long enough to get an accurate ability to extrapolate a month’s worth of use.
The utility should offer rebates if it’s clear the old meter was way off. If you were being charged DOUBLE your actual usage, that’s insane.

What’s your prior salary history? If you have been making $60k, it’s a very fair ask.
If you’ve been making $40k…it’s gonna be tough.
Key to salary advancement in Higher Ed is change jobs every few years (it’s fine to stay at same school) and work under folks who are very ambitious. They will often take you with them as they progress up and into VP/Dean positions.
But if you sit in one job for 5+ years and accept the 3% annual raises…you end up being viewed as a potential “lifer” who is happy with the lower-end entry level pay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but just saying that loyalty and good work won’t necessarily get rewarded with your department proactively giving you big raises and promotions.

If it’s the same person, I’d call the FBI or Mass AG if the local cops aren’t taking this seriously enough. The fact that a cop said there was “nothing to be worried about” when they verified this guy is outside your windows at 4:45am is beyond alarming to me.
Such a scary thing to have had happened. I’m so sorry.
Maybe also consider talking to a detective about getting a protective order against the person so that gives cops a prosecutable reason to arrest him if he is near your residence ever again. Normally you need 3 instances of abuse to get them in Mass, but there might be exceptions that apply for this person.

More lab space is simply a function of a science and tech based workforce that Boston has (and that workforce is a function of all of the world-class colleges, universities, and hospitals that Boston has).

Massachusetts has an average IQ of 104.3.
Let’s see how the southern states compare:
Mississippi – 94.2
Louisiana – 95.3
Alabama – 95.7
Arkansas – 97.5
Tennessee – 97.7
You might not like it, but those states are more than free to vote out all the Republican dipshits who domainte their anti-education/anti-science ethos. Those states don’t want to properly fund education because it would allow folks to see through the bullshit GOP propaganda that is very much anti-working class. And while those states are free to tell religious homeschool parents and wacko “book banning” parents to fuck off, they don’t. Because they encourage that horseshit.
Meanwhile, in Mass we just passed a new wealth tax to put even more money into education.
So it’s not some misplaced lie or bad faith posturing when folks simply point out the massive educational and intelligence disparities between the states. It’s a very real thing.
It’s also why Mass has so many insanely expensive private high schools and colleges.
We are the education capital of the country. No state is even close for the concentration of educational opportunities we have.

Why the hell would I move my family and especially my daughter to a place that won’t protect her rights, where there are horrible education options, and where we’d be surrounded by MAGA dumfucks?
Because it’s “cHeAPeR to LiVe?”
Lol. Most folks in Mass would pay far more to live here to he insulated from the absolute shitheels who govern those other states. I sure as hell would.
We aren’t all broke-ass babies who can’t pay our bills. Many of us make plenty of money and that’s why shit is expensive.
