Thanks. I appreciate the thoughtful response. I am really angry that a handful of bad actors basically got the mod to resign by encouraging brigading (linking to other non-Cambridge subs for the purpose of controlling the narrative) over a single issue. Hence the downvotes on anyone who shows any support for the mod or questions the brigadiers'' motives.
Really the best way to deal with this is to just wait them out, but I guess the mod didn't want to deal with it.

Case in point, you're one of the people encouraging brigading from other subs. You're not even from the area.

FWIW,I stand by that comment, which was specifically targeted to the donkeys brigading the sub and launching personal attacks against the mod. And as the mod mentioned, I didn’t apply for the job. Part of me wants to, if for no other reason to enrage the donkeys, but for now I’m too busy.
And lastly, I have no interest in building bridges with said donkeys. I am however willing and interested in having good faith discussions about the pros/cons of biking infrastructure (or any other infrastructure).

It's because in another thread I pointed out that many of the negative comments were from accounts that were days or months old, and that they all shared a similar infantile, entitled, reasoning. This led to my speculation that we were being brigaded by sock puppets from a small number of individuals.

Lol. Just looks at all the posts from the haters here: most of them are months or days old. It's pretty obvious who is leveraging the sock puppets here. /u/taylorhayward_boston don't give these fools any weight, it will just embolden them.

It’s a small population of entitled jackasses that don’t understand why a car free Cambridge is not practical, but until the entire city is transformed to suit their interests, they’ll keep whining about it aggressively. A number of them don’t even live in Cambridge. Just look at some of the commenters here, accounts that are days old with no other comments. It’s probably a couple dudes with multiple sock puppets.

Yah, but if we bundled the concept together with the whole "help us defeat Russia", I think it almost becomes way less prone to attack. The real issue is politicians are just cowards when it comes to risking their own future for the benefit of society.

How about some demand solutions too? e.g., I haven't seen a single ad out there asking the public to conserve (locally or nationally). This seems absolutely insane to me, especially since we are effectively at war with a country who is almost completely reliant on high energy prices.

Breaking the rules, to preserve their safety by endangering others. Especially when riding on the sidewalk. It’s the same asshole mentality that makes certain drivers especially dangerous. Get off and walk your bike if you are afraid to follow the rules while riding.

There isn’t a major city in Europe that has the same winter lows, winter precipitation, and wind as Cambridge and has a higher bike commute percentage. It’s just not practical year round.

Biking in the dead of winter isn’t practical for most people, regardless of the infrastructure. Look at Montreal.

Stockholm's commute share from biking isn't far off from Cambridge. Copenhagen's share is well above. Montreal's is much lower.
This further illustrates why low temperatures and precipitation matter a lot (not average annual temps).

At the risk of sounding like a complete wimp, Boston’s average winter low temps are much lower, we get significantly more winter precipitation, and the wind is way worse than a place like Copenhagen.

When you look at the number of commuting trips, biking's percentage is in the single digits. Not too surprising considering winter is a thing around here.
