It's not that bad today. The main roads aren't slick except here and there. Side roads are slick but overall it just requires slower driving and extra caution.
I drive a small fwd sedan, and this is no where near bad enough for me to consider calling in.

Well there you go, without any concrete benefit I can't see how the rezoning is warranted. If a developer gets scared off by a rezoning that failed because the project wasn't beneficial to the city or the neighborhood and was rightly and soundly rejected by both, when the developer knew it was not zoned for the purpose they had in mind when they bought the property, then I am perfectly fine with them taking their money to Nixa, or whatever town wants to support that kind of development at any cost.
You bemoaned the hostility from others in this thread, but then you say things like "lackluster neighborhood," and "Developers will avoid this city like the plague it is and is becoming!" I can see where an attitude like that might very well inspire some "hostility."
Transplants cry around about how locals are so hostile to them while calling Springfield a clusterfuck and implying that "wealthier" Nixa knows better. This is why. People who move here love to tell everyone how backwards and awful Springfield is and how the town should be run like this or that town. Most people from Springfield wouldn't live in Nixa if you paid us, and you'd have to pay us a whole hell of a lot to afford living there.

If we're going to relitigate the Galloway issue, I'll ask the same question I asked then: specifically what was the actual benefit of the project to the neighborhood and the city?
I don't mean a avoiding scaring off developers. I mean the actual, measurable benefit of building luxury apartments and self-storage there in that spot, as opposed to a another location.

I can't tell you for the dev side, but I was in the same position, wanting to do a hybrid schedule because I like being in the office part of the time. I have about seven years of experience in implementations, sysadmin, and general IT.
Long story short, no one in Springfield would meet my salary expectation, so I'm moving. It took me about a month to find what I was looking for in another city, and that was after five, almost six months looking here. There aren't enough tech companies here for them to compete on wages. And as far as the local companies that are headquartered here and have their IT staff here... they don't exactly engage in wage-fixing, but, anything that is even remotely seen as poaching can get them blackballed pretty quickly.
As far as transitioning to full time remote, I mean we almost all did it 2020 didn't we? It works for some people, but not for others, and it pretty much comes down to your personality and work style. I'm pretty introverted, but it didn't work for me. I hit the wall with remote after about six months. Slack is great, but putting something out in the channel and waiting 20 minutes for people to get done playing with their dog or whatever gets old real quick.

As was I. I try to treat people the way I wish I had been treated. That's not to say you don't. For all I know you responded to the bootstraps mentality favorably, and so that's what you believe is helpful to other people.
Don't think that I'm saying that people aren't accountable for their choices. If someone can make a better choice, they should. But sometimes they can't.

Pure death. You'll get in a fatal accident if you even look outside. Lie down in your bed and accept your fate, we're all as good as dead. It's a judgement from Almighty God.
They're fine right now in Springfield. We won't know for several hours if it'll be bad. I don't think it will be since the ground is relatively warm, probably just slushy in the morning.

> From the exhaustive list you could have made you pointed out the least viable/productive, makes sense.
Yes. I assumed that the reader would take the examples you gave as implicit and not viable for the reasons I later explained. This credit I extended to the reader was clearly not warranted in all cases, as you have shown.
And good luck to you, should you ever find yourself in adverse circumstances. I hope those around you will show more understanding and compassion to you than you seem to show to others in the case that you might have to make the sort of difficult decisions many people face every day.

Being poor reduces your options, and often the options you have left all suck.

Of course. I wasn't trying to provide an exhaustive list of all the available options, I was making the point that sometimes people don't have better options.

If they are available.

That is absolutely true.
It's also true that sometimes people without means are put in a position of having to choose between a bad option and a worse option.
A) Drive to work on bad tires in the snow and put themselves and others at risk.
B) Stay home, lose their job, lose their home, sleep on public land, go to jail.
C) Stay home, lose their job, steal catalytic converters to pay rent.

Just the worst sort of people. People who use speakerphone in public. People who think Van Halen was better with Sammy Hagar. People who applaud in movie theaters.

"DAAAAAAAD! I'm serious!!!!"

I think you'd be better off posting your resume on Indeed than posting about inequity on Reddit. But that depends on if your goal is to make a positive change in your life, or just succumb to learned helplessness.

Judging by the radar it's only going to get a little worse. It'll be a bit slicker this evening, but this isn't a major winter storm.
If this is what it takes for people to call in, I'd suggest a remote position or moving someplace where driving conditions are ideal year-round.
