I drove today because it was pouring in the morning, but this would be utterly terrifying on my bike. I remember when some idiot knocked out ALL the traffic lights at Girard and 34th (the zoo intersection). It was the purest form of chaos I have ever seen.

I've heard great things about the city or town of Lancaster. I want to take a train trip there one weekend soon.

Yep! It's a great, easy, safe bike ride up the towpath. I did it last summer on a date and had dinner in lambertville. We parked down in Washington's crossing I like you said. It was excellent. The biking may be better in warmer weather though

Lots of good food in Colombia but in general steaks are not great. Try the ajiaco, bandeja paisa, and as many empanadas y patacones as you can. Sopas are wonderful, as are the fruit juices. Bad takes on American food are among my least favorites. I never got into the salchipapas either, but maybe worth a shot.

That is one of the safer sections of trail as there is a wide grassy buffer between the SRT and the drag-strip that is Kelly drive. Other sections are right next to the road and completely exposed.

"practical politics" sure seems like code for the same slimy shit that has plagued city politics since time immemorial. One may very well need that to win, but it hardly inspires confidence in a reform candidate.
Haha, you made me chuckle with the Kenney line. How far away would ANY candidate run from his possible endorsement. Talk about a kiss of death!
Why not Nutter? I get the part about not being able to hire him as a consultant when he was (supposedly) considering a run. But he declared that he was out prior to Street's endorsement. He also was the one who brought Rhynhart in to city hall in the first place, no? He seems like a blindingly obvious choice, as far as i know he hasn't been implicated in anything illicit. Why wouldn't he want to work with her? Why wouldn't he endorse her? Why hasn't he?

Haha for sure. The amount of hidden subsidies we give for drivers and car culture in general is infuriating.
Driving should NOT be the most convenient way of getting around a big city. It isn't in most cities in the world, and isn't in NYC. Driving has it's place, but the vast majority of it can and should be replaced in a city like Philadelphia. It's a whole mind shift though.

Yep. I pointed out the hypocrisy last week and got shouted down by the hive mind here.
I don't see anyone else paying Street 20k on this list. Maybe Brown did years ago, but the others have been public officials and i doubt they could hide it for long.
I also don't see anyone else running on good governance as their primary campaign message.
Street has a stench to him and Rhynhart is getting more and more of it on her.

I get why they framed the local vs. outside money in terms of percentages. That said, if you look at the totals, Parker is way behind Rhynhart, Domb, and Gym in terms of how much she has raised within the city limits. She has gotten a higher percentage only because she has raised so much less money overall. Rhynhart and Gym, followed by Domb have raised the most money in the city. Parker is way behind.
(I know they are using two slightly different sources of money, but i believe the numbers are large enough that the point still stands.)

Hmmm... I'm not sure where we disagree.
Both in terms of environmental impact, and the fiscal health of the city we need to move away from relying on car-centric infrastructure. We need to build out infrastructure for and encourage all other modalities. Extending subway lines, establishing bus rapid transit with dedicated lanes and signal priority, expanded pedestrian and micro mobility pathways that are grade separated or protected from car traffic. Protected bike lanes on regular streets is just one small step for sure.
Without the infrastructure changes there will never be enough people willing to risk their lives on the streets as they are currently laid out. Same with public transport, people won't take it until there is more frequent service, safer service, and more rapid service.

It's an unspoken rule. My sense is that it is one of those things you learn not to mess with if you want any support for your own bills and projects. Not that that excuses it.
I will vote on that single issue for council elections. But i doubt anyone would dare try it.
ConfiaEnElProceso t1_j6y2hrz wrote
Basically any candidate coming from the cesspool of city council has to be looked upon with an immense amount of skepticism. All of them are complicit in allowing the city to fail by supporting the asinine tradition of councilmanic prerogative. So, bc Kenyatta Johnson is a corrupt piece of shit he can block any improvements to Washington Ave in his district and no one will say peep due to councilmanic prerogative. Helen Gym supported the changes originally and then completely shut up and ran away from it for that reason. Obviously Green, Parker, Domb, MSQ are all in the same boat.
I have not seen or heard anything from Rhynhart or Brown pertaining to this issue

It's a chicken and egg scenario. You won't get more cyclists or micro mobility users (scooters, ebikes) until they feel safe doing it in the city. That means safe, protected infrastructure. Lots more people would do it if they weren't constantly threatened with death.
But there isn't widespread support for those infrastructure changes bc there aren't enough current users.

I wouldn't believe a word ANY of them say about vision zero. Kenney has cloaked himself in that banner and done jack shit about it. It's an easy sound bite and then you just Blake city council when push comes to shove. They'll all claim to be for it. It's easy money for them.
