Holy hell on the original non /s post. I fell in love with Vermont 20 years ago when I biked across it. That said I’m a road bike/gravel ride/hiking guy.

I went up this last week with my partner and the “holiday skiing crowd” was absolutely bananas. Like everyone with money on the East Coast who has 5 kids just descended on VT all at once. I felt like I was watching ski school 2 but in real life and any minute some New Yorker was going to threaten to tear down the Rec center and turn it into air b n b condos.

Every Vermonter that has to interact with crowds and people like that deserves a goddamn medal and a pay raise.

And for the record, every business and person we met was absolutely kind and lovely and the restaurants were fine (although we made sure to go to every meal 2 hours early which was def big brain energy).

Right?!?! And it’s like all the same. Out where my parents live it’s all domino’s pizza and LA Tan. How many LA TANs DOES ONE STRIP OF CONCRETE EVEN NEEEEEED Ugh ugh ugh.

As a fellow midwesterner by birth it’s why I love Vermont. There’s something about being able to see a horizon in every direction that is man-made (concrete or crops) that depresses the hell outta me.

I’m vigorously pro-union except for police unions, which are the worst.

Legit though everything here is pronounced incorrectly. How anyone gets “Wuhsta” from “Worcester” I will never know. Ditto for so many others. Lemonster from Leominster? Come on.

It’s all just an elaborate gatekeeping mechanism to tell who has lived here long enough and who hasn’t.

Okay, truth time: I did this the first week I lived here. I am originally from a metro area that notoriously says “soft A’s”, which is my excuse. I came correct as soon as I realized “wait no one else says this the wrong way I am saying it”.
