Well, different strokes for different folks, as they say.
Tried Alex once, didn't like it. Then someone mentioned something about the owner being a crock of shit that warded me away from it...something about him being racist, maybe. I don't remember and who even knows if it's true.

If we can oust NIMBYs, it would certainly help a lot. But that's like trying to oust anti-vaxxers. Impossible to do. They will always exist.
The irony is real. Sad, but real. Build more affordable housing--that is not owned by greedy dickshits who gouge the prices so it's no longer affordable, TYVM--and it would help a lot with the housing crisis.

Coletti's for pizza. Pizza by Alex is gross and definitely not worth the money.
In addition, I hear Fish & Whistle is good, as well as Dizzy Birds Rotisserie.
EDIT: Wok N' Roll for Chinese food, as well. Best in the city, IMO. They recently added online ordering which is good, much better than calling them.
I'd ward away from Mulligan's as well. I used to eat there all the time--cheap, good food--until someone here introduced me to a little thing called "many many health code violations". Thank you, Internet stranger.

I think there are numerous reasons at play. Shitty OOS investors who jack up rent prices, lack of available houses, shitty NIMBYs...

Not misguided, I just know my way around law and (generally) around criminals enough to play it safe instead of playing Fuck Around and Find Out with my life.
"The only people that get shot are those who do shady shit" isn't really true. Innocent people get shot all the time and they're just sitting there, at home, maybe watching TV or eating dinner. I could be walking home just listening to music when boom, bullet comes through me by some creepazoid rando. That's why it's good to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

In the country, yes, shit's mild here if you make nationwide comparisons. Stack it up with other Maine cities and other areas in said cities, though...not so much.
More shootings than you can count on your hands and feet in the span of a few months, sketchy people, quite a fair bit of crime in general...the only available house in the entire state could be located there and I'd still take living in a tent in the backwoods of an entirely different Maine area instead.
The only good thing about it is that it's got a lot of nice stores and restaurants. You just have to keep your wits about you...and never, ever go out at night without protection.

Depends on where in Portland. Anywhere that's not referred to as the downtown area (because believe me...as someone who used to live there, crazy shit goes on there) is your best bet, if you can find an affordable house.

TBF...we're getting two storms in near-rapid succession, and the southern part of Maine specifically is getting the short end of the stick for both, so I can kinda understand the freakout.

Just type it in a note in the Notes app on your phone. Make a Facebook burner account and post it. Really, there are a ton of other avenues than TikToxic.

Oho no, I've had more than one whoopie pie in my life. I just don't find them appealing. I have much simpler tastes.

Really, I just never saw the appeal of them. Tried them once. As my generation likes to say, they are mid.

It's a common meme format. Gonna try and word it in a way that I'm familiar with.
Basically, a person (a sojak-type character or wojak or whatever the fuck it's called) says to something, "Thank you for changing my life," stating that they enjoy the object or character in question.
The object or character then responds with some form of "I'm literally X". For example, Spongebob would respond with "I'm literally a sponge", and so on. Because y'know, it's ridiculous to love a sponge and Spongebob doesn't see anything fantastical about a person thinking he changed their life.
OP got the meme here half-right, but reworked the second half so it's not just "I'm literally a lobster". The lobster responds with "They used to serve me to prisoners" so the state would probably think "...oh".
Hopefully this clears things up some.

Yeah...that's what happened to Redbank, unfortunately. Now it just looks like a shell of what I remember as a child, and definitely just as scummy as it was two decades ago, especially since the "affordable" part is a gross overstatement.

...no. Maine doesn't have stuff that's open 24 hours aside from convenience stores, unfortunately. And the rest plazas, of course.
Closest non-chain burger joint I can think of is Elevation Burger, they were good when I ate there a couple days ago. But they don't stay open into the wee hours of the night.

Possible suicide attempt, maybe? Although death by incoming train seems like an unconventional way to go.

Wish every Maine theater had 'em. Or at least a couple theater areas set aside in theaters that had it. Maybe that's part of why the fun of going to the theater has lessened for me.
