Seems like a waste of money unless your dad is a really good cook, and would actually appreciate the quality and take proper care of it.

E.g. you still have to sharpen it occasionaly, and if you don't know how you will ruin it...

Those contracts will be more expensive than a similar contract without the phone. Companies are not giving away free phones for fun...

Basically if you are paying more than 30-40$ a month for unlimited everything, the difference is going towards the hidden payments for the "free" phone.
