But I thought Newark was a dangerous crime ridden city??? Yes even though it's literally 2022.

Even the guy that shot the cops a few months ago was a special case. He was a struggling schizophrenic whose family tried to get him help from Police multiple times and guess what, Police kept telling em that there was nothing they could do, unless he was to do something drastic...so he did.

Newark has a lazy police department but not an abusive one.

Newark has some rough around the edges citizens but clearly we're not a city of murderers and thugs like people on r/newjersey would want you to believe.

Yeah, we're going to get fucked no matter what as a city that's trying to take it to the next level.

As you said, the benefits of lionsgate should outweigh the drawbacks if done right.

The same way the whole foods in the hahnes doesn't pay rent at all. Yeah they're getting over on us, but that whole foods has been a staple to the downtown atmosphere so 🤷🏾‍♂️

It's insane to me how hard people sleep on Newark.

Objectively, this city has some of the greatest potential nationwide.

A. International Airport

B. Largest Port in the East

C. 3 Major College Campuses + Several Smaller Colleges

D. 20 Flipping minutes from NYC

E. 2 Train Stations

F. Light rail infrastructure + unused light rail stations

G. Bus Terminal = Buses Everywhere

H. Performing Arts Center

I. Several Magnet High Schools

J. NJ Devils + Prudential Center

Like we don't even need to focus on the business aspects of Newark to understand that there's serious demand for development in a city like this.

I mean Jesus Christ if you removed the black population and replaced us all with white people, Newark would be labeled as the #1 most desirable place to build in the nation.

Man. I hate how I have to actively wait for things to get built!!! I want to see this city realize it's freaking potential already.

Less of a Mayor problem and more of a bureaucracy sucks problem.

You have people @ city hall who make decisions on behalf of the Mayor that he doesn't even agree with. He can't be in 1000 places at once, and he definitely can't do much policy work when he's constantly being asked to speak at a different event every single day because some type of commemoration or tradition is taking place.

>There are no buses at the airport train station, you cannot access the street

I would be entering the airport via air train and would then find a bus at a terminal.

>The new terminal will be a 15 minute walk from the airtrain, which in turn is 12 minutes for the airport train station

This is a really big issue. I assumed they would have transportation lined up // connected

>The 62 runs 24/7

The 62 goes to the Airport right? So I could technically take the 62 to Terminal C, and then catch a 107 or 37 to my house

Oh yeah for sure.

I just wanted to explore the train option because

A. Buses don't run from Penn after 12:30

B. Trains are nicer

C. Newark Penn-Airport is a nicer experience than Raymond Boulevard Bus Lanes

D. I'm genuinely curious

E. I like to have options

F. To be able to take a train in a pinch would be great. Technically I still can, but I'd just have to eat the $8 surcharge

G. There's food options in the airport

H. The new Terminal A is about to open up in the airport and it would be really cool to be able to commute through there every day

Overall I'll probably stick to buses. Transportation is transportation at the end of the day, whether you're on a bus with drug fiends or on a crowded train with asshole nyc commuters.

Not to equate the two but yk. Grass is greener type stuff.

Bro holy shit

I just checked and there's no monthly pass option for students. My student account gets a 25% discount on monthly passes. Strangley enough I just had to go through the steps to reactivate it since it's per semester and only for monthly passes which I haven't been using. Anyways the monthly pass option disappeared once my discount took into effect again.

Moreover

A monthly pass from Newark Penn to Newark Airport at the regular rate is $82.00

The standard ticket is $11

So technically the monthly pass, for regular people, will pay for itself in only 8 uses, however, this is just from Penn to the Airport, a 5 minute ride.

However again, if you were to increase the distance say, from Newark Airport to Netherwood Station 30 minutes away in Plainfield, the monthly price is $183, the same exact monthly price as it would be from Newark Penn to Netherwood Station.

This info doesn't help me, I don't think? But it's interesting nonetheless and you were right to point out monthly passes

I went to one of these in Denver and it was a blast. Obviously go during the night time for the intended effect.

The lights are synced to the music station which is fun, and the overall vibe is very chill and laid back.

I haven't been to this one yet but I do know the owners and they're super good people.

With this and Newark Moonlight Cinema, these guys have added 2 more events of variety to the city and I hope by supporting this, it inspires more people to do the same along with making what we have rn, better for next time.

I've never had a bad time in EWR. I've asked for directions when I needed them, and staff always points me in the right direction and is friendly.

On the flip side, when I went to Pittsburgh, their airport was like baby proofed. I was new and had no idea where anything was, but the following the crowd got me to where I needed to go. it's hard to get lost there.

You can argue that Pittsburgh was a better airport. I don't see why that makes EWR a terrible airport though.

Moreover, Pittsburgh felt like it was 1/3 the size of EWR so of course the layout was simpler.

Honestly, as long as there's a nearby train station, you can live in any of the surrounding cities and still work in Newark comfortably

The fact that Newark has 2 train stations is insane in and of itself. You can have a cozy house in Montclair and then take the train to broad st station and beyond.

Newark isn't nearly as unsafe and "crime ridden" as people from r/newjersey would like you to believe.

If you're gawking like an outsider and walking conspicuously, you're an easy target anywhere in the world.

For Newark, downtown is pretty much a safe haven, and is most likely where your internship will be. All 4 of our colleges are downtown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, NJIT, and ECC.

If the internship is corporate, I'd also expect it to be downtown.

There are several other neighborhoods throughout the city that are great including forest hills, the ironbound, and weaqhuahic park on the Elizabeth Ave side.

How are you getting to the city?

If you're taking the train out here, Newark Penn Station is among the safest places in the city. There's also the light rail located in Penn Station which might be able to get you to your internship location.

Many outsiders to the city use the train + light rail system to move around, and thus when there's a flock of Indian kids from NJIT on the 5:45 light rail, your safety is never at risk due to crowd size.

There's also frequent bus service throughout the city Buses run from 5 AM to Midnight. They're as safe as any other form of transportation but not as sexy. You'll see more homeless people on buses and more working class people. Everyone minds their own business.

Some people are loud, annoying, or stinky, but fights and commotions aren't the norm. Everyone is just trying to get from point A to B.

This city with such limitless potential is always so close to becoming great. Unrealized Potential is Painful.

Does anyone know city councils role in this decision? Who tf is the landmark commission?

In my own endeavors, I'm close with several of the city council members, so I'm wondering if I might need to intervene so that the next development doesn't get shot down.

u/Kalebxtentacion? tagging you because you're knowledgeable
