We always root for the animal trying to escape slaughter. Then many of us go straight to the fridge and cook up a corpse. Why don't these stories explain that it's ok when the main characters are killed for someone's sandwich?

Totally! There's no need to exploit animals at all!

That's four or five male chicks killed the day they hatched by the company your sister bought the hens from

It's great that you're trying to give moral consideration to hens, but backyard eggs are still exploitation.

The main reason stripping is ethical and eggs aren't is that strippers can quit. Egg-laying hens are owned as property and forced into a nonconsensual transactional relationship.
When we get into specific practices, it's even worse. One example: as far as I know, no strip club is throwing the baby brothers and sons of their strippers into giant blenders on the first days of their lives

A lot more ethical, too

What absolutely has to happen for a cow to produce milk?

Ok, does that mean that liking a product justifies doing whatever you need to do to get it?

There's no need to exploit animals for their lactation, and I haven't heard a good justification why it's ok. Take the literal sign as a reason to stop

I use 70% most often for oatmeal. It's 3 minutes, 70% covered, then stir, then 1 min 100% uncovered

Expert microwave users take advantage of the power level function. 70% power is just right for certain foods

Reply to comment by KainX in ELI5 why do legumes have so much more protein than other plants? by [deleted]
Other plants use nitrogen in useable forms in the soil, so while nitrogen fixation is important to be able to thrive in poorer soil, I don't see how it would categorically lead to more nitrogen used.
The nutrition facts I found have pistachios at 11.6g of protein per half cup, and black beans at 7.3g for the same volume. Measured by calories, black beans do a lot better, since pistachios have a lot of fat, but the pistachios have a lot of protein in them. You can see the same thing in other human-edible seeds.
EasyBOven t1_j2dzr1f wrote
Kinda strange that we take the milk from other species to begin with, tbh
EasyBOven t1_j2caqfv wrote
Mostly, the reason is the part of the plant. The seed needs to have a lot of protein because when it germinates, it needs to create a lot of structures very quickly to get things moving. So any edible seed is a good source of protein. Legumes are easier to process than most other seeds because they're softer, so it's easier to get to the protein, but pumpkin or sunflower seeds, nuts, and wheat are also high in protein

What makes it ok to treat some individuals as property for your use? Just that you don't care about those individuals?
