Yes to Mecha and so many places downtown. Steps from IKEA you can also eat at the Hotel Marcel's bar (rave reviews) or Il Gabbiano across the street, at the bar or sitting at a table...

yes. inside is safe and outside is safe. outside it has improved since the housing project across the street came down. there were good people living there of course but people would "feel unsafe" by the buildings and crime associated with the development. if you are used to big city life then outside the station it will feel desolate but youll be fine

the weather could dictate- if cold the skate new haven on State St is great for ice skating. if climate-crisis-warm then you could do a Taste New haven food tours but pricey.

we've had only good trips from New Haven so far with avelo. and i see overwhelmingly positive reviews on the Google reviews for tweed which are all avelo flights. That said -I would not wish your trip on anyone- sorry for that

Some New Haven things that get less attention: Music/events: for very local, small-room shows there's The Musical Intervention plus Gather and Neverending books; also check weekly at dailynutmeg and artspapernewhaven. Dogs: Edgewood Park is so under-rated, the dog would love; the small Art scene seems ready to take things to another level- the Independent has an article today on one woman's art community and her plans for a space.
