BGE- $40-100, summer-winter, and that’s being very conservative with the gas heat and oven usage. Water is billed from landlord and divided amongst apartments, usually around $60.

Public transportation is not great. However if you live in CV by the campus you’ll find pretty much everything you need within a few blocks-under a mile. Most of the stores and restaurants in the immediate area are accessible (thinking about Saint Paul between 31-33 streets). The CV Safeway and Waverly Giant are nearby as well. Accessible housing might be hard to come by, a lot of the apartments around campus are in renovated row homes. If your budget allows I’d look at newer buildings in the area. Additionally, JHU has shuttles, though I’m not sure if they’re accessible or reliable.

Metro/Otto/Soundstage. Check the shows 3/26 at Metro and 4/2 at Ottobar. Metal Monday is every Monday at Ottobar (more of just a hang out, but if you want to get to know some folks…)

Thirding. Most of the areas off the main drag feel suburban but there are all kinds of amenities within walking distance. Tons of young families. The farmer’s market is awesome. Check out Hamilton-Lauraville Mainstreet.Hampden might fit your criteria but definitely has more of the issues that come with “city life”.

Eta: maybe check out Medfield? Walking distance to Hampden, close to multiple grocery stores, but a little more residential and quiet.
