That makes sense to me. I know very little about the actual politics of what we’re talking about… all I know is my own experience of working in the same restaurant for 9 years. Over the last few years I’ve noticed that workers are being forced further away, which sucks, and at the same time, the amount of people who visit Stowe is becoming overwhelming. This town simply wasn’t built to accommodate this many people. Like I remember at least two times when cell phone service straight up crashed because there were too many people in town. And we’ve all been stuck on the mountain road for at least two hours. It’s nuts. I know I’m contradicting myself here (workers should have housing but Stowe is beyond its capacity) so I think what you’re saying makes a lot of sense!

Well, Stowe has a lot of restaurants and 75% of restaurant staff commute at least a half an hour to get to work. This is probably true for people who work in hotels too. I commute an hour every day because i moved out of morrisville (I live up north now) and there are zero restaurants around me where I’d actually make money. So it’d be nice if the people who worked in Stowe could live in Stowe. Another commenter said Morrisville is an option, which is true, but most of my coworkers live in Johnson, Jeff, Eden, etc.

Edit: added on, and this was a response to the question “does Stowe need to be affordable to all?”

If you’re still here OP, I really think it’s a you issue. People here are generally friendly. Reddit doesn’t reflect that well, but your entitlement really is insane.

Maybe it’s because I’ve worked in the restaurant industry my whole life, and I’m constantly trying to make everyone’s day a little better, but even when I’m off the clock I try to be nice. I work in the “fancy” town but I go home to a humble town. I never ever have experienced animosity from any fellow Vermonters. We might be grumpy if you get your car stuck in a ditch but we’ll pull you out of it without hesitation. This is how we operate.

If you think people are being rude, maybe you’re the rude one. I can’t imagine that SO many people have been rude to you that this is your definite assessment of this state.

Be nice and people will be nice back.

Cheers - a Vermonter

Not necessarily board games, but Boggle, Bananagrams, Scattergories, and GOLF (the card game) are my favorites.

I remember loving Pass the Pig when I was a kid but I don’t remember how to play

There’s another one but I can’t think of the name… I haven’t played it in so long. what’s that board game where you’re on teams of two and there are 4 categories (I think it’s art, science, and two other things) and you do things like drawing and charades and puzzles??? It’s driving me crazy that I can’t think of what this game is called

Also it’s my lifelong dream to play CharDeeMacDennis

Server in a tourist town here: can confirm. I have tables from Florida and other places with rental cars who are clearly freaked out about the road conditions. I give them my best advice, but i usually don’t have enough time to ask them specifics about their rental car. If I don’t have time for a step by step (I usually don’t) immediate advice for them in snowy conditions is DO NOT SLAM ON THE BRAKES! But yeah. Many people who come here aren’t used to the snow. I’m happy to give advice when I can because I don’t want anyone freaking out on the road.

I’ve only done the tour at Ben and Jerry’s once but I think once is enough and I enjoyed it… when I went, the guide crushed it with a bunch of cheesy cow puns and I appreciated that hahaha. But as other people have said, definitely go to the graveyard and after that, check out Cold Hollow Cider Mill!

If you’re into craft beer, there are a ton of breweries around too. Even if you don’t make it to a brewery, restaurants will have tons of local draft beer. I’m a server and our place keeps 10 local drafts on rotation. It’s fun to try different stuff.

The Cabot annex is fun too because there are a bunch of free cheese samples. And Vermont is a small place so you can fit a lot into a day! Cheers
