I really like this project and I assume any parking lot that’s near the MFL will become a multi-story dense residential building. There aren’t that many left below Lehigh that don’t already have a plan. I used to live on York near Front and I barely recognize it now. A tiny 650sq/ft shell is now priced around $150k. 10 years ago you could buy that for $40k
If I were a young person looking for a home I’d really consider Kensington, Harrowgate and Frankford. Fishtown is running out of developable land and it’s inevitable that the boom will proceed along the MFL. I recently became aware of the development in Harrowgate. I popped into Caphe Roaster and the block surrounding it is amazing. Homes are dirt cheap in the area now but won’t be much longer. Yes, I know….drugs and crime. Harrowgate and most of Frankford aren’t that bad. You just have to have a 10 year vision. When I first moved from Old City to East Kensington, 15 years ago, it was also really bad. Sorry, I’m off on a rant that’s way beyond the article.

Yeah, I’m getting older now and those 55+ gated communities are starting to look pretty damn good. I’ve been struggling with the streets of Philadelphia for 30+ years (adult years) and it’s no longer fun. I imagine it’s nice if you can afford to live in a wealthy community but anything outside that can get pretty bleak at times. I understand why so many fled cities in the 70’s. It could happen again.

Why don’t you become a cop? I’m serious., So many think they could do a better job but would never take the job.

The police are only as effective when the public work with them. There are a few bad cops but we have gotten to the point in society where we view cops as all bad and all working against us. I really hate that narrative. It’s constantly perpetuated on Reddit. I don’t know why anyone would want the job of being a cop and we expect them to fix the murder rate. There is zero logic in how society views law enforcement

The police can’t fix this. The police can only respond to events. Politicians can’t fix it either. Laws don’t matter in a lawless society. Trust me, that part of Philadelphia and many other areas are lawless. We basically depend on most people to be decent. Laws are fucking meaningless to people who don’t give a fuck.

Can we attach every heroin and meth addict plus the dealers? Maybe even everyone who owns an illegal firearm.

Correct. Work from home is going to limit any future high rise construction that isn’t residential.

Clinton won the key primary states. California, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida and Texas. Clinton was a bad candidate but the numbers were still in her favor and she was most likely to win. Not a DNC conspiracy to prevent Sanders.

Yep…all in the same tent. I’ve yet to meet an anti-capitalist who wasn’t socially liberal but that’s anecdotal I suppose.

The vast majority of the left were never going to support Sanders. He did a lot to raise awareness, and still does, but most people don’t want radical change. Maybe because nothing works out like you expect it will. People with great jobs and healthcare plans didn’t want the same healthcare as the poors. That’s the crux of if. They also expect the police to protect their neighborhoods but aren’t really concerned about who gets shot in North Philadelphia. Sanders was an affront to White Privilege. If you think your love of his socialist views is going to make a difference, you are wrong. 100% of Republicans and 70% of Democrats are not on that train, or they will jump before it reaches the station. Americans just don’t like to be equal, even when they are poor.
Even if by some miracle he became President. Congress would not have supported his plans. Newsflash, the president really doesn’t have that much power. His agenda wouldn’t have been passed.

Sounds like you belong in a HOA. Your neighbor not paying their taxes is between them and the city. The city will eventually get its money and it’s none of your business. It doesn’t effect you. Now, give me another downvote.

They can’t sell the property without paying the taxes. The city isn’t in the business of making people homeless but the taxes don’t just disappear.

The city is definitely still charging taxes. It doesn’t work that way. Why don’t you confront the owner?

Damn, 5 months to rehab a house? This is the work I do. They must suck or the house was really bad. I’m curious though. You are home all day watching them. This means they aren’t taking parking from you. You move whatever barriers yet they are still able to get those spots daily. This means they aren’t taking spots from anyone. I’m not sure I understand the issue.
