Well, the days are gradually getting shorter and I'll be back to work in about 3 weeks and that'll probably be the end of it for the next 9 months but until then I plan to make the most of it.

I take no notice of Goodreads recommendations. I use it for recording my thoughts on the books I have read.

I'm currently reading a narrative non-fiction book in my back yard with the evening sun on my back, a beer at hand, and the radio playing in the background. Shortly, I will continue reading, listening, and drinking beer while I cook dinner on the barbecue.

Very, very good ones. So typically I choose highly regarded books. I do read some that are merely popular but I don't hold high expectations of those.

Just because it's all in one book doesn't mean you have to read it all in one go. I spaced out an omnibus edition that contained three books over three years, one book per year.

Travel guides. In flight magazines. Once I tried to read some lectures by Hawking and Primrose on time. That was a mistake.

Interestingly, Frank Herbert was a consultant on that production and he said at the time that he was quite happy with it.

You should be able to work that out for yourself by book three.

Not if it's a good book. If it's like a Star Wars novelization, yeah, sure.
