You'd think, but so many places have a "guest" wifi but don't put the password anywhere.

I don't think checking some crowdsourced datasheet just in case someone submitted it and it's still accurate is any more convenient than having to ask an employee, but there are definitely plenty of times the password isn't readily available.

Once you're not a kid anymore presents suck though. I'm an adult with a job, anything I want I'll just buy myself. Nobody is going to be as good at giving me presents as myself, and then I have to give them a present of reasonably equal value in return so basically you're spending money to get stuff you didn't actually want.

Honestly it wouldn't be so bad if assholes didn't block the box on every. single. light cycle.

The traffic design isn't amazing but the bigger problem is selfishness. Both at the intersection in the picture (where people jam themselves into the intersection against the light from an astounding three sides at once) and at the southbound turn where people getting off 295 south make it so only one or two people can make the turn onto the service road/on ramp each light cycle.

If you complain enough Verizon will send a tech out to measure the signal in your unit and if it is insufficient they will give you a free range booster.

I still have mine from when I moved. I don't need it anymore but it's like 6 years old so I'm not sure if it works on 5g.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a 2022 update of a Gonzo Journalism expose.

"We had 2 bags of K2, 75 pellets of Adderall, five sheets of something our Chinese bitcoin merchant assured us was high-power blotter acid, a salt shaker 1/10th full of sepped on cocaine and 90% full of fentanyl and baby powder, and a whole galaxy of completely untested illegal research chemicals. Also a quart of Fireball, a quart of Rumchata, a case of Truly lite seltzer, a pint of raw kombucha, and two dozen redbulls and cans of axe body spray.

Not that we needed it all for the trip, but once you start buying the nasty shit your girlfriends always want at Tick Tock Liquors, the tendency is to drink 1/4 of what you bought and stash the rest in the car in an ever-growing stockpile nobody will ever finish."

Yesh, lots if you're in the right corporate/philanthropic circles.

The problem with these is that you have to know someone and be invited. The next bet tier is movers and shakers throwing parties at their home, Slightly less exclusive - you could score an invite by being a really nice neighbor but definitely not as a stranger.

Bottom of the barrel is anything you can by a ticket for, avoid at all costs.

Occasionally you'll find a unicorn - a few years back I stumbled upon a flyer for a rugby team NYE fundraiser - black tie, limited invites with a rather hefty donation, upscale bar with open bar and food, and real money gambling throughout the venue (all of the rake went to the club)Super nice people, great atmosphere, and a worthy cause.

Best rule of thumb is if it's not the kind of party you need to be invited to be able to attend, it's not worth going to.

Best way to spend NYE is at home, with people you love, (romantically or platonically is fine) lots of cheese, and the nicest bottle(s) of champagne you can find at Costco.

Key in The Palisades and Stoddert in Glover Park are both excellent elementary schools that feed into excellent middle and high schools.

Both neighborhoods have 2br apartments that will easily stay under $3k. Both neighborhoods are also very quiet, pretty, and safe. Glover Park has more going on in the way of restaurants and bars.

Not a lot of lawns in nature though - you don't see lush fields of fescue in forests.

In reality the leaves will just kill their lawn. You need to run over them with a mulching mower if you want to add the nutrients to the soil and still have a lawn next spring.

That is, if they have/care about a lawn. If they just want to let whatever grows, grow then they can certainly just let the leaves sit.

This disclaimer is the very first thing you see on the tour website:

> Please note: this is a scaled-down tour with limited production (no costumes, props, or video screens) in smaller theatres and more intimate settings, and Al’s setlist will be comprised almost entirely of his original (non-parody) songs.

https://www.weirdal.com/tour/

Not to mention the tour is literally called "The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-Advised Vanity Tour." Did you not see that and even get the least bit curious to google what was so ill-advised and vain before you spent money on tickets?

I'm not sure what else you could have expected.

Congratulations, you probably hang out with people who don't make their job their life, and you also probably hang out in places that don't attract the see-and-be-seen type-A/Instagrammer crowd.

There are lots and lots of people in this city who will immediately ask you what you do, there's a reason it's such a common trope here. There are also lots and lots of people who couldn't care less but (except for you I guess) people don't generally make a Reddit post about the times they went out and people didn't ask them what they do.

It's all about the crowd you surround yourself with. It's always hilarious (but also a little sad) when I'm talking to someone who laments that "people in DC always want to know what you do so they can judge you," and then when I ask them where they hang out I inevitably get a list of expensive, trendy, loud, flavor-of-the-month $20 cocktail bars. Well yeah, no shit you're only meeting those types of people, you're only going to their bars.

I would love to see your exhaustive research that shows you've compared all of those stores and Walmart is the ONLY affordable one.

Don't forget to include the specific products in your market basket, the median incomes of the areas the stores are located in, and your methodology for deducing the threshold for affordability.

I can't wait to see what you come back with and I DEFINITELY don't expect it to be the equivalent of a crumpled sheet of construction paper with WHITE PRIVILEGE scrawled in crayon.

> Why are there 5 Whole Foods in the city spread out throughout the city and easily accessible for most residents and only 3 Wal-Marts

Are you somehow under the impression that Walmart and Whole Foods are literally the only places to get groceries?

Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Aldi, Lidl, Trader Joe's, Wegman's, all exist, along with one-offs like Bestworld. There are over 70 full-service grocery stores in DC, don't act like it's Walmart, Whole Foods, or nothing.
