This is definitely true for recent transplants but once you find a relatively permanent social circle it goes away. I've got friends in Ashburn, Springfield, Shirlington, Bethesda, and Howard county in addition to DC and we all see each other quite often.

Jefferson's school profile says only 10% of students are performing at grade level for math and only 27% in ELA. Considering the absolute joke that standardized testing grade levels are, it's likely significantly less than that.

I would not consider that "fine" under any circumstances.

This is the worst take I've ever seen.

The sticks are there because it's illegal to be there in a car but idiots in cars insist on being there anyway.

The pylons are a constant source of outrage on my local nextdoor and it honestly makes me furious how stupid and selfish people are. I have seen several people angry at the pylons for "taking away their parking" when the pylons were literally installed in the illegal parking area next to the intersection because assholes like those posters kept parking there and obscuring drivers' view of the intersection.

If you're on Reddit and looking to buy a house in DC in 2023 you've got money for cars or ubers.

Yes, it's absolutely an issue for many current and longtime residents over here, but for the purposes of this particular discussion I think it's a pretty fair assumption that an occasional Uber to the bar is not a big deal.

After 20 years of wear and tear the new "rowhouses" will be twisted and falling down from the warped green pine framing and will probably need a hazmat reno when you find out the cheap drywall they used is actually made of shredded Chinese newspapers held together with strychnine.

Nothing will ever have the same feel as hardwood timbers, masonry construction, and lath and plaster.

I was at Palisades vet on Saturday and no exaggeration in the 20 minutes I was waiting for my appointment I saw them give 5 dogs their canine influenza vaccines. In and out in 2 minutes apiece.

So maybe try there?

> But driving a car is a privilege not a right.

Another big aspect of the car hate is that most car drivers act like it is exactly the opposite.

Vehemently opposing bike/bus lanes and streeteries because it means less city-subsidized parking for them, complaining about speed bumps and other traffic calming measures, constantly whining about "scofflaw cyclists" when 90% of them are rolling through stop signs too, getting into hysterics about "predatory" speed and red light cameras, etc.

Car drivers act like they're the most persecuted group in the city when in fact they're one of the most pampered.

Whoa, let's not pretend like posting fearmongering crime articles is all people here are doing.

Many of them are making completely unnecessary posts about their personal life every time something remotely bad happens to them, or even when they think something remotely bad might have possibly been about to happen to them!

Go to a friend's house? Have your friends over to your house? Go to a neighborhood bar? I can't imagine somewhere like Trusty's or the Raven is going to be having some expensive cover charge event.

Yes, you need an RPP to park longer than two hours. Even if there was some sort of grace period for new residents how in the world would a parking enforcement person know you are moving and not some random out of state car?

> In the meantime, what do I do to avoid getting a ticket?

You can either take your lease to the local police station and get a temporary parking pass, find parking on an unzoned street, or pay for off street parking in a lot or a garage.

Really simple stuff and I can't imagine it's not easily found with a Google search or in the FAQ.

I've always assumed it's the "right way" because traditionally people made them in the morning and ate them at lunch, at which point a soft roll would be a soggy mess but a hard roll has softened up nicely.

I can rarely finish an entire G-man in one sitting, so I usually take the other half home for dinner and it definitely gets nice and soft.
