Not sure which way you're going, but Tripoli Bakery in Lawrence, MA always has amazing pastries, cakes and pies.

John and Sons on Amory Street on the west side. Paul (the owner) is honest and won't tell you to get something done unless it needs to be. Been going to them for years and I actually live in MA now - still go there if I know I need something done while visiting family.
