I have Soundblaster AE-5+ and changed to Topping EX5, I noticed a difference but it was subtle. Treble was sharper on the AE-5+, other than that there was not much difference that I could tell.

Could be you don't like them. I didn't like the SHP-9500s myself and bought after reading alot of hype around them. It's best to try headphones out in person if possible for this reason. Just return them if you don't enjoy them, try something else.

you could prob return and get a decent headphone + mic or dam/amp instead. wont have to replace as often and have better sound quality

I'm actually enjoying the new ZMF leather pads for 8XX. They sound more impactful and mids are pushed forward a bit while bass lowered but i eq it back up. I can wear these for 10 hours with my EQ setting and not get fatigued anymore.

As for cables, I bought a 1.2m cable with 4pin XLR plug from Forza Audio Works and am very pleased with the quality of the cable and also the length since I use my headphones at my desk only the shorter length is really perfect for me. Sound difference from this cable and stock sennheiser cable is the same (imo).

looks like hes inside a sound proof booth, the ENT i get my hearing test done at has similar glass booth, looks familiar, but i could be wrong.

Well couldn't the tubes be used to color the sound sig a certain way? Along with everything else that went into the tuning.

this is the main reason i use my HD-58X for most of the music I listen to, and use HD-8XX when the music is well mastered. The HD-58X make everything sound nice, while my HD-8XX don't like poorly mastered tracks.

nice setup, not cringe. hell i used to pass out in front of my parents speaker setup as a kid listening to music. your setup is something alot of people can relate with.
