You're right. It's very rare for damaging ice storms to occur here because cold air damning is tough to get west of the Appalachians.

I agree. I know the Senate is Republican controlled, but hopefully the Democratic state house will show what's possible if Democrats control the Senate too.

Yeah, they were complaining for weeks that he never officially changed his party like he promised. It really feels like at this point the whole thing was a wink and nod to hold off a Republican attempt to elect a speaker of their own until the three Democratic seats were filled.

He did, but in the end it seems like it was basically just a wink and nod, and he never officially changed his registration as far as I know.

Seems like he ended up playing the GOP quite well.

They're uncommon in older homes and apartments around here from my experience.

I don't think it's a stretch to say this might be the most misinformation filled news event in the history of the internet.

It's one of the few regional words really that Pittsburgh and Philly have in common that I can think of.

Says the one up at 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday. Is there something wrong with checking Reddit when getting home after an evening at a pub?

Hoagie is actually a common word throughout a good chunk of Pennsylvania and not just Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I've been down there a few times and I definitely remember it being pretty chain heavy.

This definitely tracks well with my experiences of what I see when I go to various other metros.

I feel like it's more chain filled than places like New England, but I think it's less chain saturated than most places I've been in the South and Midwest.

I think this is a good way to put it. Even in the suburbs, you can find your share of non-chain restaurants once you get away from places like McKnight Road.

I think you should maybe look at Bellevue or Avalon. Both are much quieter, are a fairly quick drive to most places you'd want to go, offer decent public transit if you happen to end up working in Downtown, and have a lower wage tax than in the city.

I have a friend who lives in the Schoolhouse Apartments, so I have visited many times on the weekends and have never really felt uncomfortable walking in the immediate couple of blocks around his place. I will say though once I drive down to East Ohio, I definitely see characters who I would understand why people would not feel comfortable walking by at night.

What a shame. I haven't heard people talking about them going downhill like with many other restaurant chains when something like this happens.

I'm generally not a fan of chains, but I always thought Max and Erma's was a decent option.

Geeze what happened to them? They used to have at least six locations in the area I feel like, and now they're down to just one.

I'm in my early 30s, and I can think of only one or two truly major icing events where trees and power lines had issues near the city.
