That’s really cool! My oldest son took a film/video editing course throughout his 4 years in High School, but after graduation he decided that working with his hands (plumbing, carpentry, etc) was more his style.

Do you know of any websites or Twitter/Facebook/etc accounts that regularly update what, when & where filming is taking place in the greater NJ/NYC area? There was a NYC Filming Twitter account I used to follow a while back, but whoever was running it stopped posting. It’d be awesome to have a resource like that, whether it’s to avoid an area due to traffic or scope it out from a distance (so as not to disturb the actors & crew).

I …don’t know why the hell I didn’t make that connection. Of COURSE it’s Arkham Asylum. Teenage-me would be embarrassed that I didn’t realize it sooner. 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for the correction!

This is really cool! It looks to me like they’re filming a prison scene or a mental hospital scene or something. Zooming in, I see lots of 1970s or 1980s style police cars, ambulances, a few news trucks. Plus the search lights - with all that detail they must be shooting outside soon, too.

We’ve had a few movies being filmed in Elizabeth lately, as well. “Day of the Fight” was filming here in September or October last year on the backstreets of the Peterstown section, and “Your Monster” was filming somewhere on East Jersey near Broad (either near or at the old Ritz theater).

At least 2 major studios (Netflix and Lionsgate) are setting up shop in NJ, too, thanks to the tax breaks (which I think is awesome), so we should be seeing a lot more of this type of thing in the coming years.

There’s a tiny niche gift shop in Roselle Park called “Just Jubilant”. They have a really big variety of cool stuff, much of it handmade and local (I think). Stuff like coffee mugs with inspirational quotes, joke/gag gifts, jewelry, collectibles, etc. Kind of like a cooler, less corporate, more intimate version of a Hallmark Store. The owner works the store when it’s open, and while I’m not 100% sure if she would be willing to stock some of your stuff, it can’t hurt to ask.. especially since it’s like 20 minutes away from you. Website is https://www.justjubilant.com if you want to check it out.

Another cool thing about this place: they’ll wrap anything you bring to the store. Really a lifesaver at Christmas time for us gift-wrapping-impaired people.

Check out https://jcpromotions.info/calendar/ - they run TONS of Street Fairs and Flea Markets in NJ, and they’re constantly adding more. When I first started checking their website 5+ years ago, they had like 5-10 Fairs they produced. There are DOZENS now.. one almost every weekend during spring, summer and fall. If you tap on the event name/date, there’s a link to register your booth/table and/or contact info if you have questions.

That website is also a great resource for people who are just looking for something to do on a random Saturday or Sunday, too.

Good luck!

Yeah, I’m not going to get into a pissing match with someone who still uses the word “libtard” unironically and doesn’t know the difference between “one” and “won”. You know exactly what I (and plenty of others in this thread, in New Jersey and in the USA at large) mean when we mention fascism, dictatorship, authoritarianism, autocratic rule, tyranny, etc etc.

The election was held months ago. I’m not over here soapboxing or telling anyone in Brazil who to vote for. It just irks me to see someone in the USA rally around & advertise for a wannabe dictator - especially with the current political climate here. I’d feel the same way & express the same opinion if it was an 18-wheeler promoting Erdogan, Putin or Duerte.

Huh. Montville is only a 30-35 minute drive away from here.. I wonder if it’s the same guy or if he pays for the truck or something. They could both be part of some kind of pro-Bolsonaro group, too. (I’m probably reading into it too much tho).

It’s just strange seeing that type of thing around here in our deep-blue northern cities. Especially since Newark & Elizabeth both have a decent sized Brazilian population. Hell, even Trump supporters have enough sense to know not to drive through here with their goofy-ass flags. :-)

Some background:

Almost every day this truck drives through my neighborhood, heading west towards either the Turnpike or the Goethals Bridge. You’d think he would have stopped after Bolsonaro lost his re-election bid and fled Brazil for Florida, but I guess this guy can’t let it go. The tractor trailer was decorated with Christmas lights back in November & December, and it has loudspeakers that play a crazy variety of music from the US - including “Rock Me Amadeus”, the Ghostbusters Theme, Lil Jon songs, Bruce Springsteen, etc etc.

Has anybody else seen this guy driving around and/or does anybody have any insight as to why he’s still cruising around 5 months after Brazil’s election? I’ve tried finding info about the truck and the driver via Google and Bing, but I haven’t come across any references to it at all. I would imagine he’s probably being paid by Bolsonaro’s supporters to do this - I’d be surprised if he was working as an independent contractor hauling liquids for an actual company around here, with the crazy loudspeakers & endorsement of fascism and all.

Growing up in Ocean County, it always blew my mind how many idiots flew confederate flags there. It’s like, come on - you’ve never even been anywhere near “The South”, and your family has lived in Manahawkin for 120 years. Just write racist shit on your truck instead - we all know what “heritage” means to you. 🙄

And it’s only getting worse.
