Grove Street in JC is nice , but it’s mostly less cool versions of stuff that’s in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

It’s managed by a private developer.

There will never be critical mass if businesses continue to be erected at the exclusion of the 300,000+ people that actually live here. Trying to gentrify a 90% minority city with chains aimed at a small number of commuters is such a dumb strategy. Nobody moved to Jersey City or Brooklyn for Teriyaki Madness.

Go big! Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange is a cool upscale place with some great views of Manhattan.

Dutch’s Lounge in the Tryp, Swahili Village, the restaurant in the Robert Treat Hotel and Marcus B&P are good options downtown.

Bloomberg tried this in NYC, but people (and the soda lobby) cried government overreach.
