Then why do openers range from 1/2hp up to over 5hp?

A quarter of your yearly salary on a car is not that unrealistic. Most people making under 100k a year will still buy a car worth more than 25k.

Oh for sure, I just meant the price was, in today's dollars, more what you would pay for an entire of mid-level car, not even the comparable Caddie of today.

$12,500 a year for hose reps, leadership may have got a bit more. But lets not pretend, that just like today, congressmen didn't have lots of other income sources.

Salary of a 1947 House Rep was $12,500. The price of the car was $3550. This would similar to the house Democrats buying the current minority leader a Kia. Something he clearly could have bought for himself if he wanted too. Seems more like some kind of stunt by his fellow reps.

Twas a joke. As for the article and YouTube program, just sounds like PR fluff that will have no effect.

I guess I'll have to break it to the guys down the street with the motocross dirt track and large gun range that there is just nothing to do out here but enjoy the peace and quiet. I know, I'll just ride my quad over there through the miles of trails in the state forest behind us and tell him. So quiet and boring...

So your argument is that the rural environment doesn't lend itself to the things YOU like to do. I was responding to a comment that claimed "people just like living in cities", as if this was some near universal truth, when that is far from the case.

Or a horses, or hobby farming, or starting and orchard. It's just a different lifestyle and the urban dwellers of Reddit are just as oblivious to it as most rednecks are to the appeal of a modern art museum.

So you save an extra 20k, which is nice, but there is nothing to spend it on, except the more expensive repairs and generator? What is it you were hoping to spend your money on that the country isn't providing? This really just sounds like living in the country doesn't personally appeal to you, so it's just dumb. Have you ever lived in the country? Yes the hobbies and past times are different, the community smaller, but there really is not less to do or to spend your money on.

Got a call once from a very scared sounding postal worker. They were at a sorting facility about an hour away near a major hub and told me my bee shipments was damaged and bees were loose and that I need to come get them.
We raced there expecting bees flying everywhere, but of course the box was fine and still sealed, but 50-100 bees were hanging onto the outside of the box at the bee yard and just stayed part of the swarm. The lady must have really just not liked bees or had disturbed them for a moment because you almost always get a few free-bees on packages, though that was a lot.
