I'm not sure how much it costs spaceX with their reusable rockets (and given that Musk is in charge, I would bet that he never did achieve the multiple orders of magnitude cheaper costs he promised), but prior to the space shuttle cost per kg into space was $18,500. After the space shuttle, $54,500/kg.

It's really important to note that this "limitation" isn't much of a limitation.

There is functionally infinite sun. The amount of energy reaching the earth at sea level from the sun every second is well over 100 times the total yearly energy consumption of the entire world.

Modern nuclear uses only 5% of the energy in the fuel. Then, the conversion to electricity is somewhere around 35%. So from the energy contained in the fuel, nuclear is about 1.75% efficient.

Coal plants are around 35% as well.

Combined cycle gas is 55-60%.

Triple jct cells are insanely expensive. This article is a bit out of date, but the cost difference holds true. When I was working on the solar car for my university back in 2009, the GaAs cells were hundreds of thousands of dollars in total.

>To give a cost comparison, utility-scale solar projects now cost about $1 a watt for solar power. A gallium arsenide multi-junction solar cell costs up to $300 a watt at this point.

Poverty is widespread in NZ.

There was a time when I thought it would be the best country to move to, but the more I dig into it, the more I realized it's kind of a shitty country. It's beautiful, but you'll notice it always scores highly on "economic freedom" which is code for letting corporations run roughshod.

That "moderate left", Democratic socialism, is not left at all, but a centrist position. The world is so right heavy that people think that maintaining a softer version of capitalism is "left". It takes advantage of the emotional value of the word socialism, but never seeks to end capitalism.

The left is strictly anti-capitalist. Full stop. That includes MLs (maoists, dengists, Stalinists, and orthodox maxist-leninists and some smaller variants) and anarchists. One of those groups is very clear about what socialism is and the other isn't socialist at all. Both believe in an end goal of communism with radically different ideas of how it can be achieved.

It's difficult to say why. There are a number of possibilities:

Male sapien-female neanderthal (MS-FN) couplings did not happen. Perhaps FNs did not accept MSs for coupling

MS-FN offspring were sterile for whatever reason

MS-FN offspring were killed via infanticide

MS-FN offspring were not viable

MS-FN offspring caused some complications in birth.

MS-FN offspring were less hardy the pure N offspring and the N mothers couldn't adapt to keep them alive

We may never know why exactly.
