They closed Roll On America in Lancaster in 2021, and it was always pretty busy there. Used to drop the kids off for birthday parties and skate nights a few times a month. And now all I see on my Insta feed are people at roller rinks having a great time.

Reply to I'm so tired of the MA driving test by Dreamer_4200
I have a friend whose son failed 6 times. No idea if he ever got his license. A neighbor of my mother has a kid that just got his license, and still takes the bus everywhere, even though he has access to a car. My own kid actually has a really nice car, but just doesn't like driving. They live on campus and use the university shuttles to get everywhere. And will be using the bus system this summer during their internship. They took the classes during the pandemic, which I am sure actually soured the kid. Plus people are just generally a holes here in MA.

Worcester is actually pretty damn great. Museums, stage theater venues, shopping, restaurants, hospitals/doctors/specialists, entertainment, outdoor spaces. Mid state so you can go anywhere and get there pretty quick.
I worked in the city several years ago, the only thing that was bad? Traffic. But that's pretty normal for any city.

You need to be on your own health plan now. The 26 age thing does not apply to Masshealth plans. Only to employer/private health coverage. Once you marry you are no longer eligible on your fathers Masshealth plan, and need to find your own health insurance. If you do not have health coverage through your employer. And your husband does not have it available through his. You have to apply for it yourselves via Masshealth. Either individually, or as a married couple.

Been in Fitchburg for about 20 years now. Neighborhood is nice, clean and quiet. You're young, but schools here do not suck. There are more non chain restaurants and bakeries opening up in the city. And plenty of cannabis shops. But finding anything like you're looking for is not going to happen. At least nothing where I would point someone. And yeah, the roads are horrible. But I was visiting my mom on the South Shore of MA recently, and the roads down there are getting just as bad as they are here.
Gardner isn't bad, and has a growing downtown. If you wanted roommates I would suggest Lowell.

Not just you. I only needed three decent sized russets the other night for dinner. All they had were sweet potatoes. Which I have no issue with. But I wanted russets. I bought a three lb bag of them. And none of them were a decent size! I had to bake 6 freaking potatoes to feed three people! This summer, in addition to my laying hens. I am planning on growing potatoes, garlic and some other veggies. Even if I do have to move the garden space to where there's more sunlight

We bought our 3 bedroom, 1 bath, small lot, 1920's house in late 2000. For under 100k. Current value is just under 300k. I mean we've made some large updates. New roof, Electric brought up to modern code. But there's no way in hell we could do it now.

My mother still lives in my hometown on the South Shore, in a suburb of Boston.
The sidewalks, and roads are in decent shape. There have been several small business's that have opened up over the last 10 years. There's the commuter rail into Boston. They recently been updating the water/sewer lines, and then actually repaving the streets. AND adding sidewalks. My sister lives in a town further away from Boston, but still a suburb. And the town is clean, has decent roads, schools, shopping and sidewalks.
I am often on the North and South Shore suburbs for business. And no, the "suburbs" of Boston are not dying. And there's been plenty of investments in them. *smh*

I will never complain about my water/sewer bill again. Damn!
3 bedroom, 1 bath outside of Worcester. Occupied by two adults for the majority of the year with the kid at college.
We have a high efficiency washer and a newer toilet, but I also have a garden I care for during the summer months, and a small flock of chickens in my back yard, and the most my bill has been is around $85. Last month it was $38
I would legit cry if our water/sewer bill was this high

My husband and I ran into a similar situation about 15 years ago with a "friend" of mine. He needed a place to stay, we had an extra room. He signed am agreement to pay a certain amount per month for the room and to contribute to the food budget. Worked for about 6 months.
All of a sudden there was no money coming from him. He was in his room all the time. When I questioned him he said that his boss, a colleague of mine, had told him to take a vacation since he hadn't taken any time off all busy season. I didn't believe him so I called her. She had actually fired him for taking the farm truck after hours, without permission; getting in a small accident with it. And having a minor with him.
So I brought my kid to my moms. Picked up my husband at the train station and told him what I had found out. Then went to the local police, who told me what you have been told. By the time we got home I was done. Walked into my home and went off. Told him to get the fuck out of my house. Along with some other choice words. My husband gave him $200 and brought him to the Greyhound bus stop on the other side of my city. He left with a suitcase of clothes. But he left. Haven't heard from the loser since.

Grew up there. Forced to go to the Catholic school in town. My family has a few acres that was purchased in the late 1960's, and the neighborhood hasn't changed much at all since I left. I go down and visit every so often, and my pcp is down on the South Shore. But I personally can't wait to sell the property.

Central MA is pretty decent. You can get to either Boston, or Western MA with a two hour drive. Or find something to do in Worcester. I live just north of Worcester. And am from the South Shore, but closer to Boston than New Bedford. From where I live I can make it into Boston for the day, dinner, or a flight in about two hours. Or I can head to Lenox MA for Tanglewood. Or to go shopping. Or NH for shopping or such. However it is a more red/conservative leaning area. At least Northern Worcester county is

Haven't seen, or heard, any yet. But I know they're there. I have three cats. So it's only a matter of time before they start catch and destroy games. My hens will occasionally get one of two as well when the buggers get into the coop. I have a neighbor that feeds the birds off the porch right next to my driveway. So I have to make sure to start and drive my cars frequently. Although I might try peppermint oil on a few cotton balls. under the seats and in the glove box etc this winter when I am not driving them as often. I heard this can work to keep them away.

Reply to ‘Most plumbers aren’t even picking up the phone now.’ Burst pipes cause backlog after Boston deep freeze. by bostondotcom
1920 house. Shower plumbing is in the outside wall. We have torn out the wall previously and installed PEX and insulation. Installed a shut off and drain for the water. There is a radiator pretty close to the shower. Kept fan going to move heat into the room. *we've tried the "water dripping" thing in the past. It led to the first of the burst pipes.
DIDN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sunday morning. I go to turn the water on. Husband comes downstairs. We are standing there trying to decide what to do for breakfast, and then... you can hear the water hitting the back of the tub. I run down to the basement and shut the water back off. Water is pouring into the basement. Breakfast was as relaxed as it could be. Then we got to pulling the tub away from the wall. Copper pipe, even with the insulation in the wall, split.
So in June we are taking the tub out, and installing a shower. And we are flipping it around so that the freaking plumbing is not in an outside wall.
