One way to fix the commutes would be to get more ferries from around the perimeter of the island and not just going to Manhattan, but Brooklyn too. I have no hope the roads can be improved nor do I expect another train line, but ferries would be more doable. Especially one from the south shore.

First, it’s way worse coming from NJ or PA to NYC now that more people moved out of the city during the pandemic so the commutes are no longer comparable. Also, I’ve had both long driving commutes and long mass transit commutes - no contest, driving is the absolute worst. It just feels so much longer because at least on the bus I can pass the time doing anything but driving.

I live in one too. I also live near apartments where middle class people live too. We happily co-exist.

Why do you think people who live in apartments aren’t middle-class? If you need the help, understand that “middle class” is often code for “white.” This guy thinks he’s being punished because some apartments might be built near his precious house.

“Single-family homes are so critically important to the culture of a neighborhood,” said Stefano Forte, who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2022, on Friday. “They want to change our middle-class community that we have here and, frankly, they want to punish us.”

Someone needs to tell this guy middle-class people can and do live in multi-family homes and apartments too, but the dog whistle is strong in this comment.

That’s not the point. A purity test or whatever would be gross. No one deserves that. But I can’t help you understand if you are hyperfocused on this particular piece when the reason people are pissed is because he has lied about nearly everything he talked about in his bio. This is just part of that long trail of likely lies.

There shouldn’t be cuts to libraries because the cuts that hit almost always hit the places that residents care about the most, like branch hours, programs, and services. The libraries are very top-heavy though. And the three systems really need to merge so there aren’t three $$$$ presidents and three of the same $$$$ admin departments. It’s also really confusing for library users that we have three separate systems.
