I had an employee there threaten to call the cops on me for trespassing because I locked my bike up on the rack on the sidewalk.
I had assumed the rack was in public right of way, but apparently it's not. The employee went right to shouting and threatening to call the police. Seems like a pattern there.

Koko's Pub for Crab Cakes, Faidley's for an old Baltimore staple style of crab cakes, LP steamers for crabs, steamed shrimp, or soft shell sandwiches, The Penny Black for mussels.
Anyplace that has Rockfish or Snakehead on the menu probably does it decently, but I can't think of anyone that consistently gets those in (Myth and Moonshine used to be my go to, but they have since closed).

The survey is pretty pointless, mostly focusing on cosmetic finishes for the new bridge(s), but there's a lot of other project info there too.

Reply to Thinking of moving to canton about 3-4 blocks up from Boston street. The house has a basement. Will the basement get flooded if it rains heavy? by earthsfriend
It depends on the Basement, generally they don't flood there, but there may be some ground water seeping in. Lakewood is the worst street for that.
As far as water coming down the sidewalk and into the basement door, it's usually not a problem as long as the bottom of the stairs has a drain to your sump. But if it is a problem for heavy rains, it seems like 3-6 sandbags would be an easy solution.

Does the city let you get away with cold patches for scheduled work? And what do you do about steel plates and plows? And scheduling gas shutdowns in the middle of winter?
Sure, emergency distribution system work can be done in the winter, along with transmission work that can be built using microtunneling, but why would you be purposely phasing construction that includes patches, plates, and gas shutdowns over the winter months?

>Utility work is complex. Project management on this type of work is difficult.
This is true, which is all the more reason they might be "blundering about". Just because you work in an industry does not make you good at it. There are plenty of awful PMs in utilities.
Just look at the shit show that Central Ave is.

>But my real question is: will they fix things back if/when they ever finish? As in repave the street and rehab the sidewalks? I know they've been doing/done this work elsewhere and was wondering what the outcome was in other parts of town. I'm not hopeful.
You can probably expect them to wrap up by November 15th. Generally steel plates can't be used after that, and the asphalt plants are shutting down for the winter so patches can't be placed. They'll be back out to finish up the job starting around March.
They will eventually resurface the road (at least 1/2 of it + 10' on either side of any house connection trenches), as well as pour fresh sidewalks.
In functional jurisdictions they would have had to break this job into smaller phases and completely Mill and Overlay the road/restore the sidewalks before shutting down for the winter or before doing more than a mile of work. But pretty much all of the utility contractors working in Baltimore City are the worst of the worst (because the city lets them get away with anything), of those contractor's BGE's gas workers are the usually the worst offenders.

I work in this industry, and by your "sit at your computer and let real workers do their thing" comment, I'm assuming you don't.
BGE gas contractors in Baltimore are pretty much the worst I've ever seen.
It doesn't help that Baltimore doesn't have any inspectors requiring proper backfill techniques. Sure, they'll patch the road... after they backfill with the spoil without proper drying or sifting. It'll be a complete surprise to everyone when they don't get good compaction and we end up with rutting for the length of the pipe.

Does it? Has there been an incident of someone with a Carry Permit causing problems on a campus?

Universities and Colleges aren't included in the COMAR definition of Schools.
All Maryland Universities have a ban on concealed guns, but not all have policies that apply to open carry (UB does). The bans are "policy" but not enforceable by law, so they would have to notice and ask you to leave first, they cannot arrest or detain you unless you refuse to leave, at which point you're trespassing.
(I would definitely not trust UB campus police nor any other responding agency to know the law well enough to not shoot you)

I agree about Snake Hill, I like their other food a lot, but I feel like I'm biting into a chicken breast with a bone in the middle for their wings.
IIRC Smaltimore gets their sauces from Delia's, so you might be disappointed there. I put Mahaffey's wings above theirs, but I'll have to give Stackhouse another shot.

I have no problem with chicken bites (or whatever you want to call them), but they are a sauce delivery device and shouldn't be in the conversation of "wings".

Yes, much cheaper, which is why people do that. And in 2021/2022 rates, $10k would fill an Olympic pool.

No one is filling a pool with a garden hose.

At Baltimore's increased 2023 rates, it costs <$12k (both water and sewer fees) to fill a full Olympic sized pool.

If the pipe burst in a place where the meter is registering the flow, that would be on the property owner.
