I feel like this is OT, but when I worked the 2010 census in this area, it was a lot easier dealing with people in apartment buildings than in the very affluent neighborhoods, like Millwood and Highland Springs. The only thing worse than gated communities was the rural areas and maybe some parts of west Springfield with crazy right-wing, anti-government weirdos. Younger and poorer people were generally more friendly and laid-back; also less likely to be anti-government wackos. I don't think I actually worked north Springfield, though; I worked south Springfield and in some surrounding counties like Christian and Taney.

Reply to is reald 3d comparable to no laser imax? by vchaz
I've never heard anyone use "liemax" to refer to xenon projection. The term generally refers to IMAX theaters with absurdly small screens. My nearest IMAX is still xenon, but the screen is large. Anyhow, IMAX 3D is superior to RealD 3D, and in general, IMAX will have a larger screen and better sound than an auditorium being used for RealD 3D. However, if you live close to a large format screen with laser projection, then you might enjoy that experience more than some of the crappier IMAX theaters. Also, IMAX theaters in general have shitty, uncomfortable seating. If it was an option for you, a Dolby Cinema is probably the best way to experience the film.

Many years ago, I ordered "fried" dumplings at China King, and I think this is actually how they were cooked. It was a long time ago, so I may be wrong. But as a fat American who wants my dumplings to be completely fried, I think I can remember my disappointment that they were not.
FWIW, Happy China and China King seem to be basically the same, so maybe that is another option?

I've never been to this place, but I just looked at their website because I was kind of curious about that. They appear to push subscription dentistry that includes two cleanings and an x-ray for $300/year. Honestly, that's less than my dentist charges. The current rates at my dentist are $139 for a cleaning and $50 for an x-ray. I don't feel the need to get an x-ray every year, but even if I just paid for an x-ray every other year, that would be $303 at my dentist vs. $300 at this place. So, at least to me, the prices seem reasonable. FWIW, my dentist is in a shitty strip mall on Kearney. It was next to a titty bar, but I think that closed.

I definitely had a "WTF" moment when I passed this while driving down to Silver Dollar City.
Also, how does it have so many Google reviews?? It has almost as many reviews as Dickerson Park Zoo, more than Nathanael Greene, about twice as many as Hammons Field or Nakato, and over 3,600 more reviews than my dentist. Is there a water slide in there or something??? Should I have spent the day here instead of driving down to SDC?

Is there somewhere that I could donate a working computer? I pieced together a Windows 11 PC from old parts and would like to get rid of it, but I really just want to donate the computer without a monitor or peripherals. Also, it's in a very large and heavy mid tower case.

The brief drops yesterday were the first issue that I've had with them in a few months of service. I haven't noticed any drops today. I was paying a lot more money for slower speeds, data caps, and less reliable service with Mediacom.

Reply to where to get Mr Pibb? by [deleted]
I don't know where it can be found in bottles or cans. If a fountain drink will suffice, I think Pibb Xtra is in the majority of Freestyle machines (some have Dr. Pepper instead). I know that the AMC Springfield 11 Freestyle machines have Pibb, but I'm not sure about the other Freestyle machines in town.

Installation went fine, and I haven't had any outages in the three months since I had it installed. My wired speeds were lower than I expected at first, but I think that was actually an issue with the crappy Ethernet in my old motherboard. I built a new PC, and now I'm getting the advertised speeds. This is like.... a million times better than my experience with Mediacom. I have no complaints.
I don't know if this will help anyone, but one issue I had is that "Cyber Security" in the supplied C4000XG was preventing my Plex sever from working. I had to disable that.

Yeah, I see people move over late basically every time that I'm there. I've also forgotten about it once myself and had to change lanes late, TBH. I'm always entering 60 from Glenstone, so there isn't a lot of time to move over.

IKEA? Micro Center? Decent pizza?
Can we suggest keeping something that we already have? I'm afraid that we're going to lose the Springfield Cardinals in a couple years.

I have no idea who owns these places, but the location on Enterprise changed their name to Cashew Chef quite awhile ago. I assumed the food was the same, but I haven't actually visited the Chinese Chef on Campbell in many years. I grew up off south Campbell, but now I always go to Cashew Chef.

I haven't liked the big buffets that I've been to. If Cashew Chef still has a buffet, then that would be my pick for quality over variety. It would be relatively small, and I think it's only available at lunch if they still have it, but I like their food. I always use the drive thru, so I don't know if they're still doing the buffet.

I've been getting my contact lens prescription from Kevin Kickham at Eyemart Express for many years, and I've never been pressured to buy anything there (and I never do). I don't know what current exam prices are. I only go in for an exam about once every three years.

No. I've only bought it from Walmart (many years ago) and Target (more recently). AFAIK, Target doesn't sell it anymore. I contacted Promised Land after it disappeared from Walmart and asked if it was available anywhere in this area. They said no; but that was a long time ago, and it was before I found it at Target. I did purchase it from Target as recently as last year, so you could check there in case I'm wrong about them no longer selling it -- but they've removed it from their website.
