We have wallpaper in the living room from the prior owner, but we kept it because it was very classy and muted ivory in colour.

Indeed. We just bought one built in 1971 which the owner agreed out of. Had a lot of work to do on it to update, but we got a decent price because of it.

I highly recommend Bedford if you can afford it. Adjacent to Manchester, so you can get the city experience, but also far enough away to be removed from any issues. Often voted the best place to live in NH. We just moved to Bedford from California and love it.

Though if you are renting, it can be tough to get into Bedford.

This is also what happens when parties run on a single issue. Every Dem ad is about abortion and every Repub ad is about inflation. That lends to the annoying repetition.
