I grew up with an artisanal well and a water treatment system which consisted of an activated charcoal filter and a UV light. Then I moved and now I have municipal water. I ended up having to get a filter due to the chlorine.

It also depends on the source, temperature, and filtration (if any). Oh, and if it has nasty chlorine mixed in.

One reason would be so you have the book thr next time you want to read it. It also frees you from dealing with due dates.
