I don't know if building a line to Southeast would be any faster since you have to go north and then make a u-turn and head south so the travel times would probably be similar. The tracks along the Danbury Branch are 40-60mph , you could upgrade those to 70-100mph with some curve straightening and electrify the line thus shaving off 20-30mins. That would service the large employers and cities along route 7 and 95 which is higher then routing via Southeast/White Plains.

I believe this plan despite the high ridership projections was scrapped. It did have the fastest travel times, but the news lied about the alignment on LI and whipped up a NIMBY tsunami...thus killing the project. A 105 billion is also for the entire proposal shown...which is close to 4,000 miles.

I don't think the PA cares about NY other then the Airports and Bridges/Tunnels which are its biggest cash cow. The way the GW Bus Terminal rebuild went and the dinosaur like speed of the PABT rebuilding process shows the agency doesn't care...even the way the handled the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel rebuilds shows that compared to the way the MTA rebuild all their tunnels... As for Rail expansions in Newark , my views have changed over the years... I think the PATH at least the WTC line needs to extend West into Newark Branching off via the old Newark Branch making stops at NJ PAC/Military Park , Courthouse , and then every 15 blocks under Springfield Ave to Route 78... I think there needs to be a North-South Line combining the proposed Newark-Paterson LRT with the shoveled Newark-EWR-Elizabethport-Midtown Elizabeth-Cranford LRT as one high capacity line. I think the PATH 33rd Street line should extend right into the Terminal area of the Airport. There should be Bus Rapid Transit with Stations along I-78 from Summit to Downtown Jersey City. The current Newark LRT should extend to West Orange via the abandoned Orange Branch...

You have to book a few weeks out with Amtrak to get a low price. They use this weird bucket system to determine the price. Id wish they would switch the corridor trains over to a fix price depending on the distance traveled like they do in NC or Cali Amtrak...

West of the park into Orange is fine but east of the park south of 280 is abit rough. The Northern part of East Orange or north park ave is also fine. Orange for the most is fine just be aware that parts of the city are prone flooding near NJT tracks , the river isn't marked but during violent thunderstorms or an ida level of heavy rain over a period of a day those areas tend to get flooded badly. This also continues down into South Orange and Maplewood...
