the highway composes 3 out of 4 of those types of sound pollution. And currently with the construction it can cover all 4. Do you really think the occasional muffler is more of a problem than the giant highway? The highway that has construction vehicles driving on it which are significantly louder than a straight pipe?

You don't like loud mufflers, that's fine. The solution is already there, the police give out tickets for straight pipes and other illegal modifications all the time. The highway has no solution in place and is a significant cause of noise pollution. Try fixing the problem that benefits the whole city instead of your street.

If you look into what causes health issues from noise pollution you will find that it is continuous or constant noise - a car driving by with a broken muffler is not continuous or constant.

The highway has a constant flow of cars (some of which might even have broken mufflers!) which means a constant source of sound. Mufflers contribute to the pollution, they are not the main source. The giant highway cutting through the center of the city is.

The issue is a "constant low drum" is what causes the health issues. A brief annoyance at someone driving by with a straight pipe doesn't happen all day, every day.

You can see in the study this post talks about that the highest levels of noise pollution line up with the highway, which means the low constant drum is the issue.

You can also look into Japan's 40ish year fight with highway noise and making efficient panels to reduce a major source of sound pollution for any more information.

People are allowed to drive on a fix it ticket for 7 days. Doesn't matter if it's at night or not.

Urban planning won't entirely eliminate things like illegal mufflers, but if all the other noise goes down one outlier is tolerable.

Just because that's the one that annoys you doesn't mean it's the most prevalent or the most damaging one, and "illegal mufflers" can also be someone trying to get their car to the shop after their catalytic converter has been stolen. Or a broken pipe. Fix it tickets gives them 7 days to drive on that legally.

Yes. I have known and lived with someone who took their meds. They were totally functional and lead a productive life, when they did not take their meds they did not have a productive life. Almost like a drug addict who isn't actively using can have a productive life and then when they are using can not. Shocking how similar they are!

A disease is a disease. You aren't a doctor. I know this because you are claiming drug addiction isn't a disease. And the differences between diseases doesn't magically make one not a disease. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't a medical problem.

Edit: Love when people make grand statements and then block you because they can't be bothered to learn that they are wrong. The person arguing with me was ignorant, thinking that drug addiction can just be magically turned off. Addiction is a life long DISEASE.

You don't need to call for them to ticket. They drive around at night, the parking enforcement has a night shift. Why would they ticket "overnight" cars during the day? You ticket between 2-5, the same time they have for over a decade. No calls need to be made, they will drive through neighborhoods and ticket as desired.

And as we all know, the police are always entirely honest.

Lol blocked because they know Im right. Go figure.

You seem to think medicine isn't an effective solution for schizophrenia, which tells me you've never actually experienced living with someone with that disease. It lets them live a stable life, so long as they continue to follow through with it.

And if they stop, the stability will often come tumbling down. Just the same as when a drug addict falls off their plan. "Not taking a substance" isn't all it takes to be cured of drug addiction. Its a struggle - every day.

I know you aren't a Doctor, so I don't need to worry about that. I trust medical professionals when they call something a disease. Facts are facts, drug addiction is a disease. Treat it like every other disease and stop trying to act like its some special circumstance that only some medical professionals refer to as one.

Thats an entirely fabricated story. I have lived here long enough to know exactly when parking enforcement is going to hit certain streets. They don't need to be called, and its hilarious you believe the cops when they tell you "blame your neighbors".

I know people with all of the diseases listed above. And guess what - drug addiction doesnt "just get better". That's an ignorant, naive statement.

If you knew people with any of the diseases you mentioned, you would understand this. But its apparent you do not.

You aren't a Doctor. Drug addiction is a disease. Your feelings aren't facts.

Obviously a bad investment when they could've had the business owners surrounding the fountain contribute but god forbid Venda paya for how much of the public space they take up.

It's bad usage of funds but the city isn't great with priorities, if they have a few businesses complaining they really bend over backwards.

I think its use has been more or less established as an outdoor restaurant seating area.

Theres a few parks on federal hill they could spend some extra funding on to make nicer, and 45k to repair the fountain was kind of a bad use. I'd be super into them adding some more public seating/tables in the surrounding spots that don't have a ton of anti-homeless architecture so you can actually hang out and enjoy the space.

People complain even more about solutions for the homeless (like building more housing, or even tiny house style camps) than they do the bike lines.

I'm pretty sure the solutions have been proposed MANY times but the state continues to rely almost entirely on charities to do the actual work. The government isn't ignorant - it's lazy. They think clearing out a homeless camp is all you need to do to remove the problem, because all they hear about is how bad the camp looks.
