Hey wait a minute. I just realized today is January 12. I swear this happened.

Oh yeah, there was nothing interesting on the backside.
https://historylink.org/File/11007
>On January 12, 1936, early on Sunday morning, the freighter SS Iowa,
outbound from the Columbia River to the Atlantic coast via San
Francisco with 34 crewmen aboard, is driven onto Peacock Spit at Cape
Disappointment by hurricane force winds. The radio operator manages to
send a distress signal but the fierce storm will prevent rescue vessels
from approaching within range of the foundering vessel. Within a short
while, enormous waves break up the Iowa's hull and she sinks into the
sand with only her pilothouse, masts, and king posts visible above the
surf.

Nice shot.
That could almost be a promotional photo for the ferries. You could try, send it to their Twitter or something like that if you want.

Nice. Sometimes that 'mostly cloudy' day can look good.
I'm almost always there in the morning, so I'd miss this.

Very cool, thanks.
I thought I was reading 'CAR', but 'GAR' makes more sense. ;)

Oh yeah I had a similar thought last night as I was trying to sleep. Are we in daylight or standard time right now, I can never remember...
Sunrise is at 8 AM. I guess we're in standard time now, so as you say, if we kept "daylight savings" then sunrise would be at 9 AM. Bleh.
The time change is still annoying, we should probably just keep it on standard time. That might mean sunrise is at like 4 AM in the summer? Kind of annoying...but better than messing with winter darkness times.

Oh, you sound like you know things.
Here, I had scanned it at mega size. I did a quick edit for contrast. (Edit: oh wait, looks like when I combined the front and back I did that edit too)

The pen (darker) writing is original.

>"Dear Avis,

>Have not heard from your mother for long time, hope she is not sick.

>Do you recognize the gentleman in head of the line on Memorial Day."

Upside down writing, from the day it was mailed.

Are there any ferry routes that have been shut down over the years? Nothing major that I can think of...

The slide only had the date written on it, but I'm fairly sure of the location. My grandparents had a vacation home on Whidbey.

Yeah, definitely looks like it...but does that mean it was made in 1913?

Whidbey is big, there is some farmland and open areas.
Deception Pass area is beautiful. Plenty of big trees, hiking, beaches, views, and the bridge.
With no car it would be a challenge, but there is a bus on the island.

Yeah OK, I should have put another question mark.
The point still stands, I think, at least sometimes.
I'm not sure on specifics, so maybe I'm wrong and it doesn't stand! I can admit that I'm wrong, if so. :)

Because of the strong current from the Columbia?
I think 'current' isn't the right word...
