It's a time + association thing. Horns were used more in music than stringed instruments (read: guitars) for decades. You still hear a lot of horns in early rock and roll/adult contemporary songs from the 50s. A lot of the earlier, popular "pop" Christmas songs boomers and gen-x grew up hearing either had the sounds of the 40s or the 50s so they want to emulate that when making their own songs. After that, it just kind of gets associated with the Christmas sound.

You're hearing what you want to hear. You don't say you finish watching a video with “tears welling, silence, goosebumps” just because its "being played differently."

“What I had written in my diary was now superimposed on the life of this icon and sung so beautifully and emotionally. It was a reminder of what an important medium music is. Goosebumps up the spine. It really made sense. I thought: ‘What a powerful piece of art.’ I never got to meet Johnny, but I’m happy I contributed in the way I did. It wasn’t my song any more.”

If you don't see it, it's because you either don't want to or you don't understand what he's saying when he uses the word superimposed.

Absolutely despised glam rock back in the day. Bubble gum pop melodies and shallow lyrics wrapped up in a bad boy disguise.

Loved Cinderella though. They had a lot of blues and soul influence the other bands were missing. Shame about the hairspray, it put their heads on the chopping block when grunge took over. Shame, they were really trying to pull away from the pack and do something different on Heatbreak Station.

I think Taylor is incredibly talented and despite what haters think, I believe she is a legitimately sweet and good human being. I also avoid her songs like the plague because they're so insanely catchy that even 30 seconds of exposure gives me an ear worm I can't get out of my head for weeks.

But really, I honestly do believe she represents the best of us no matter what her distractors say. Damn good kid.

Just like to say I love modern music and enjoy discovering new bands. I love how music is always changing.

That said, if a song has been written by a new group in the last 20 years that can match the imagery of Peter Gabriel's "Come talk to me," I haven't heard it yet.

If you want the most for your money, take a day trip to Houston and hit Soundwaves, Cactus, Sound exchange and Half Price Books. Buy used and you can stock up quick. Cons - check the condition of the disk before buying and you're limited in selection to what they have at the time. Pros - really cheap and you can check out new groups you've never heard of for a low price.

If you want something specific - buy online. Plenty of places where you can buy used CDs cheap even after adding shipping and handling.

I've noticed our cat much prefers to hang out next to me while I listen to music down low while I work than by my wife while she's watching TV with people yelling and various explosions or fight sounds. When she's at work, he'll hang out on the couch but when she turns the TV on, he'd rather sit under my chair.
