No sarcasm op is ridiculous. What's the point of this sub just being people linking to news outlets with nothing else? What's wrong with there being questions sometimes? There's really not THAT many questions in the sub right now, and if it's such a huge issue then op and the others can just go bookmark Variety for their tv news since they don't care for discussions.

Ugh I hate people... asking tv-related questions in r/television! It's much better when it's only tv news so everybody can say "what are you, a bot that's shilling for [tv show]?" on every fucking thread! Grrr!

Someone said that Jackie was going to be with Kelso in That 90s Show, which it's like... okay the actors are married in real life, but Jackie was always better with Hyde and it's not as if they couldn't just recast Hyde.

My That 90s Show idea that I came up with a week before they actually announced they were doing it would've had it turn out that Eric and Donna had a long discussion after the finale and decided that while they'll basically always love each other, their lives have always been going in different directions and that was especially true with her officially going to college finally, so they have like one last fling and then part as friends. And I just ignored the Jackie/Fez thing, instead I had Jackie has a multiple-times divorcee (she figured out she really liked having weddings but not being married) who was an egg donor for Fez and his common law husband.

Wow calm down on that hot take that an incredibly popular show that was on the air for 8 seasons was good.

Blonde Donna marks the part of the show I generally can't stand anymore. There's a run before that moment that gets kind of tiresome - basically "Donna is a horrible bitch to Eric after breaking his heart but Eric is also kind of a douchebag about it as well" gets insufferable but fortunately it does end eventually.

Blonde Donna does not end eventually.

Also while season 8 generally sucks, it has one of the funniest scenes in the entire show. I can't remember what episode it is, but it involves Bob trying to order from the drive-thru at the burger place while the gang are hiding in the bushes.

Also post-Blonde Donna has a really hilarious episode involving a vacuum cleaner and a lot of paranoia. So it's worth watching the entire show I think, just know that when you see blonde Donna that's about when it's just not as fun anymore, and also when it makes progressively less sense that Red is allowing all these now adults hang out in his basement all the time.

They planned to make a Grease tv show back in like the 80s.

Also joke's on you, I did want a Grease franchise. They could really easily do it as an anthology series - each season is about a different year with a different lead romance, with every romance consisting of people who are too different but learn to make it work. This would also cover changing attitudes towards "gangs" and would address the school becoming less white over time in addition to the goofy musical numbers.

Yes we all know that every single aspect of entertainment has always gone through extensive market research beforehand. I know plenty of people were definitely clamoring for a workplace comedy about an SNL-style show according to market research. People should only ever make shows after years and years of census taking to decide if a show is worth making.

There's a time and place for both. Like, Hallmark has a movie set in the 50s about the Rockettes that features a few black actresses when the first black Rockette didn't join until 1987 but the point of the movie is just about following your dreams, so it not being totally historically accurate in regards to there being women of color in the group in the 50s is fine - because it's a tv romance movie.

But if you're specifically making a show about "social justice" that's mean to have a message beyond "follow your heart" then you need to try to be historically accurate or else the story doesn't make sense.

On one episode he had some lady who fell for the old "online boyfriend I've never met who never wants me to see his face or meet him but I send him so much money". So Dr. Phil is like "yo you're dumb", and the lady is like "Well if my boyfriend isn't real, why did he agree to be on this show?!" to which Dr. Phil replied "You know he ISN'T on the show, right?"

Phil might be exploitative as heck but some people are also just stupid.

I watched the NBC coverage and listening to Savannah Guthrie mispronouncing Pokeeman isn't what I'd call good stuff. however having the commentators there to explain what the balloons and floats are is very helpful. There was a bunch of times I had no idea what character the balloon was supposed to be, and hearing them explain what the floats are representing and what marching band this is, that's good.

It's wild that there's this whole "animated shows are made to sell toys" thing when almost every animated show I still enjoy has little to no merchandise for it - and the merch that exists is hard to find. I'm not arguing, I know networks prefer animated shows to sell merchandise, it's just weird that a lot of them then don't have merchandise or barely have any at all, and the stuff they have is incredibly cheap - like so cheap that even though it's affordable I'd bet most parents wouldn't buy it because it's cheap cheap and not just inexpensive.
