Holy crap! Missed this entirely. Don't have another checkup sked until early March.

I've been going to Dr. Christopher Hayner downtown for several years now and can't rave about him enough. I can't speak to Cigna specifically, but his office manager is an absolute rock star as well. One time I didn't even realize I had an issue with a claim until my next visit, when she casually explained how she'd un-screwed them without even having to bother me. She just knows all the companies and plans cold, and it wouldn't surprise me if she's got a direct-dial network as well. Well worth at least a phone call to discuss your circumstances.

Get an awesome to go kit from DiAnoia's and a nice bottle of wine. Even the nicest places feel like Mos Eisley Cantina on Valentine's Day (and Mother's Day, for that matter). No better time to stay in.

Thai pad see ew is very similar and might scratch the itch. I love Senyai's, although they don't offer beef as an option. You might try Thai Gourmet or Thai Cuisine in Bloomfield if beef is a requirement.

Is it? Even assuming a brand new envelope house the baseline utility fees plus minimal monthly usage should be well over $300.

I’d estimate $400 - $550 per month for electric, water/sewer and gas combined depending on your usage. For a pretty lux place rent seems not crazy but a bit steep for something without two full baths, and you’re probably going to have to drive for groceries if walkability is important to you.

You may be right but I've never noticed it. Probably about 2-3 weeks since I last drove through. All it takes is one car trying to turn right from Shady southbound to Forbes westbound to really gum things up on Shady. I suppose an alternative for Shady southbound would be to make it a no left turn at Forbes (not a ton of cars do that anyway), make the left lane straight only and the right lane a dedicated right turn lane.

Pretty much what I was getting at. The highways are already built and important, and we’re not going to just wish them away. But getting pass-through traffic off of surface streets with some minor improvements without building more highways seems like a no brainer.

Who knows. Someone is always triggered. Would've been much more interesting if they'd engaged on what they specifically disagreed with.

A few completely realistic ones off the top of my head:
- A highway interchange in all directions between 28 and Parkway North would go a long way in unclogging North Shore surface streets. Having to go through four lights to get from 28S to 279N is absurd.
- A ramp from Veterans Bridge inbound directly to Bigalow Blvd eastbound would alleviate huge amounts of traffic around Crosstown Park, which is only going to get worse with the Lower Hill redevelopment.
- 100% of intersections with traffic signals should have modern pedestrian walk signals and countdown timers.
- The intersection of Shady Ave and Forbes Ave in Squirrel Hill should have three phase light timing: green Shady, green Forbes and a four-way walk (like Negley & Centre or Penn & 6th). It's safer in general, but also pedestrians crossing Forbes often prevent turns off of Shady from both directions and gum up Shady traffic terribly.
Pie in the sky: Fully complete all segments of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, at least within city limits. Use eminent domain if necessary to connect downtown to Upper Lawrenceville, get the South Side trail off of industrial side streets, etc.

EYV was exactly who I was referring to! I haven't been to their brick and mortar location yet, but their pop-up at Station we went to was really excellent. I think they're still BYOB and waiting longer than they expected for their liquor license, which has definitely not been good for business. (Something is jacked up with the county--Back to the Foodture is waiting longer than anticipated as well.)

I'm still looking forward to trying their food again, but this rubbed me the wrong way a bit too. A similarly hip restaurant that recently opened used a microfinance campaign that seemed much more appropriate for a for-profit business. However, if someone wants to essentially tip them in advance, that's their prerogative.

The sequence of R-R-L-L-R-L (think I got that right) in a few seconds to go from 28 south to the Ft Pitt Tunnel onto Parkway West is like playing DDR on expert. The overhead signs visible about a millisecond before you pass under them are chefs kiss of confusion.

If you're a AAA member it's a cinch at the East Liberty location. Just make sure you've got the title and PA insurance cards. Regardless, recommend you book an appointment for a PA inspection as soon as you have a plan to re-register (believe you have 10 days after the new tags).

I thought Milkshake Factory's expansion always seemed bizarre and unsustainable. The East Liberty location opened in the dead of winter, exactly when everyone's jonesing for a milkshake. That one and downtown always look like the ultra-luxe stores at the mall--bright, clean, empty and with lots of dead-eyed employees milling around.
