If you have ever lived in or visited large markets, the FOX affiliates there usually have complete newsrooms and commit probably 4-6 hours of their time to live news coverage. In little old Richmond, that's not the case. WLRH (Sinclair-owned FOX) has had WWBT (Gray-owned NBC) contracted out to do their 10 pm news. I believe at some point in history the FCC required all over the air stations to produce 1 hour of news coverage daily to keep their signal.

Somewhat related, WUPV / Richmond's CW affiliate used to do a broadcast of local news. Gray owns that affiliate and the WWBT newsroom produced that as well. Not really related, it will be interesting to see what happens with the CW in the future. Nexstar, the company that owns WRIC (Richmond's ABC), owns what used to be WGN-America and is now Newsnation Prime. They own a large number of CW affiliates and bought a majority stake in the CW company recently as well. I imagine they will attempt to buy the WUPV from Gray at some point if they change materially change what programs the CW.

I have not watched more than 5 consecutive minutes of local broadcast news in a decade but my mind is a prison for useless knowledge.

I wonder how much of the estimated cost would not be realized in some other way. You have to hit up the sign shop 3 times, but things like updating the website, changing letterhead, reprinting IDs, etc., are costs likely to be borne through a standard operating year anyway.

$50,000 per school is also not a trivial amount of money but in the end, comes out to less than $2.50 per school per student in RPS. That's a pack of pens.

I think it would have been best to roll this out over 2 or 3 years; there is likely additional cost efficiency to be found by learning what needs to be done on the first pass before going for the next 2.

Weird.

The land use requirements of high schools for the county is bad. It drives up costs, makes them harder to maintain over time, getting kids in and out of the schools are infrastructure nightmares, and it’s somehow still hard to support all of the athletics on these large sites.

I absolutely cannot imagine how $10 million is being spent on the chester police station. complete hooey.

Also, the way Chesterfield builds high schools is an incredibly insane use of land and promotes some of the worst kinds of development.

In college I used to work 5am-12pm and took classes 5-9:40pm. I do not miss that at all, Jesus christ.

My current job really does not need to even be in an office but you can practically show up when ever as long as work is getting done. It's 10 am and half the staff is still out.

I’m cramming every moment possible to finish up some professional certifications for my job so i can make more money, so I’m hitting the bike and the books every weekend until all of these tests are passed. on that note, anyone know of a good place to get studying done on a Sunday? I could relive college and go back to Cabell I guess.

It was an abused profession with consistently deteriorating working conditions 3 years ago. Post-COVID and now with the profession under fire from right-wing multimillionaires, we have gone over the precipice.

We keep asking schools in this country to do more and more while giving them less and less. That needs to change, but it will not without collective action.
