I take the express bus to work (Bronx) now. I could never go back to taking the subway daily. Way too much riff raff and non sense. And as a small Asian woman I make sure to carry pepper spray when I do take the subway because I’ve never felt completely safe taking it alone in the Bronx since 2020 after dealing with racial harassment (even got the guy arrested thankfully) Edit: Bring on the downvotes -especially from all you white privileged Manhattanites!

It’s not just a matter of increasing service. It’s also a matter of keeping the trains and stations clean and increasing safety and accessibility. And in this post-pandemic world many people will continue wfh or hybrid schedules reducing the need to take daily public transit

BLM is such a joke. If anything it made people more racist by making them constantly think about it. To get rid of a racist society we need to look at people beyond their race. BLM itself is a corrupt organization just out for money and doesn’t actually help POC. I’m a POC myself btw. I thought the george floyd protests were dumb at the time and still do -they didn’t solve anything at a systemic level and were hypocritical at the time when we were supposed to stay home during the pandemic

I was just going to say, where’s my raise?! We’ve been due for one a few years now. I hope the unions negotiate well. We’ve already been screwed for our health insurance and with inflation they better give us something better than a pathetic 1-2%. We’re underpaid as it is and now that our insurance is going to get scrapped for medicare advantage when we retire there’s hardly any incentive to stay.

I don’t think so. Anecdotally but I knew people who were afraid to go outside/gather because of covid but made an exception just for George Floyd protests, including one of my immunocompromised friends. It was as if it was dangerous to go to central park because of covid unless it was for BLM (before people knew outdoor spread was minimal)

The pandemic is “over” so to speak, so people are out and about on Friday nights now (restaurants, bars, social gatherings, etc). I think since lots of people were bored at home in 2020 and spent all their time glued to the news/doom scrolling, more people participated in the protests. I bet if there hadn’t been a pandemic the George Floyd protests wouldn’t have been as big -it gave people an excuse to gather when gatherings were essentially banned. Not sure why I’m being downvoted and I don’t care lol
