Reply to Just watched the whole street sweepers + leaf blowers thing for the first time…why can’t the city just tow cars that don’t move? by RoverTheMonster
GREAT QUESTION
Because this stuff grinds my gears, I've done some amateur field research and I've concluded 80% of the cars on my (busy, Center City tree street) block move maybe once a month. I wish there was street sweeping simply so people would stop taking up public space with cars they rarely use.

My psychotic take is that Lincoln, Kelly and MLK should be tolled and the proceeds should go directly to Parks & Rec

I don't see how Rhynhart can stay in if he runs...honestly I'd rather he get involved with her campaign as an advisor/endorser.

I hope they get moving on the new development, that hole is such an eyesore. Glad to hear there may be street level retail/restaurants at the base of the tower.

A not insignificant amount of obscured license plates have the little FOP badge on the plate. Saw it all the time when I was in South Philly.

>having to potentially do maintenance in the future, and a developer not wanting to have to deal with a large tree on shared HOA property.
You named two potential reasons right there. There's also the root system impacting potential utility lines and foundation, insurance, etc.
There is a bill that would apply new fees for removing trees that developers are supposed to pay if they don't save / replace trees on the lot.
Personally I think the whole premise is dumb as regulations against building in dense urban environments encourage greenfield development in exurban areas that require the clearing of forests, not to mention that auto-oriented development patterns objectively worse for the environment. Your objections seem to be around the fact that you like big trees in your neighborhood - fair, but that's just as selfish of a reason as the developer taking the tree down to make construction easier.

Short sighted is blocking housing for a tree. You can plant more trees.

I'm voting for her, but I think the moderate boomers will vote for Domb and the terminally online moderates will vote for Rhynhart. The ticket will get split and we'll end up with the Democratic Machine candidate (Parker).

He's pretty harmless imo. The ward council people are way worse because they have a say over zoning and land Bank disposition in their districts. They're all corrupt.

This city desperately needs an a-partisan good governance & reform party. Everything else is just nonsense until we can get the local government to a functional state again.

Complete side note, but I was looking for some rural 'property' to buy in central PA...just as an escape and a way to return to my roots. Jesus christ everything is so expensive because of shale speculators. Compare land prices in PA to upstate NY (where fracking is banned). It's wild.
