I am guessing most people on here will be snarky but setting ambitious goals for public safety is good and changing course when things aren't working is also good. For me, what makes the pedestrian experience unsafe are drivers who aren't even close to following the rules of the road; the infrastructure investments, by and large, have been the right ones.

Sure and I’m very glad you got care but 1) there was a bed for y’all at one of the hospitals mentioned in this article and 2) these headlines pop up every year around this time. Kids get sick in the fall! Hospitals prepare properly for this and the media sensationalizes the situation.

I understand your perspective but I promise you that some parents take their kids to the hospital for literally anything. I myself have received a few ibuprofen-and-rest prescriptions. I just don't see hospitals being busy during cold and flu season as something to be panicking about.

Whenever people bring up these headlines, I remind people that many, many parents take their children to the hospital with literally any cough or fever. No shade because I know it's scary when your kiddo is sick but for most people who have RSV, it's just a cold. This is just the time of year when people get fevers and colds.
