In the 60s CEO pay was 20x higher than the average employee. Now it is closer to 400x higher. Our country is healthiest (for the average American) when the government regulations provide a healthy balance to our systems. Instead we have spent the last 50 years promoting unchecked greed and stacking the deck to high for the wealthiest.

We need a balance. Having state run jobs with great benefits puts completion on the private sector to provide workers with equal or greater benefits just as much as private benefits put some competition on the state programs.

When everything is private with no checks and balances the only thing efficient is making more money for the rich and screwing over the average Joe

It’s an interesting point. The BQE is a pretty major part of shipping routes so I wonder how the lack of this highway would have effected this and surrounding areas.

Before the 1950s we didn’t have most of our goods delivered by 18 wheelers either.

Not saying the highway was a good thing, but it’s more complex than you are making it out to be.

Too many people are trying to make the housing issue a black and white problem. The reality is it’s not as simple as just build more or stop the software. There are thousands of factors at play here and all of them are against the regular people just trying to rent a place.

Yeah it needs to be the opposite. A vacancy tax would help incentivize keeping small business rather than keeping stores empty in hopes a bank or a chain will pay ridiculous rent prices.

Just set up some provisions so it can be waived during a recession or if a certain area is struggling, etc.
