Has anyone mentioned the tight housing market? I understand it's tight everywhere -- including Canada!

But it is crazy tight in Providence.

Are you thinking of renting a house or apt? Renting anywhere with a dog has reportedly become much more difficult according to posts in this sub this past year. (Note though that there are dogs in nearly every property on my street and most are rentals; I see tons of pittie mixes everywhere in Fox Point. Doodles and pitties.)

A bigger concern re: kids + Providence is how incredibly, inexplicably bad Providence Public Schools are. We pay a lot for them yet they are awful.

So, definitely research both housing availability and schools before you decide.

I wonder if they could use 16+yo students? There is at least one Prov charter high school that places students with small businesses for term credit.

My friend has a glassblowing business in East Prov and he's had them occasionally for years now, and always had a good experience. The hours the kids work are limited but maybe if they can get a few it would help?

No idea about whether they're taking new patients (they get recommended on this and the Providence sub a lot):

Drs Light and Conforti, Waterman St, Providence

First Spiritualist Church, East Providence

Attended a friend's event there one evening 10 years ago. No idea if it's still got weekly services but it would be a place to start to ask around?

If not, maybe try metaphysical shops and again just ask the owner (preferably) how you might go about joining a circle.

The glassed-in Botanical Gardens at Roger Williams are lovely to stroll around in. Then you could drive around the park to get an idea of what it's got. The Natural History Museum is like $3 admission and is worth a visit. The Planetarium. (The Zoo another day) and Apsaras Restaurant (mixed South East Asian) is inexpensive, excellent, and close to the Elmwood entrance to the park.

Hiya neighbor πŸ‘‹

Next time you're meandering around Wickenden, take East St (it intersects Wickenden up toward the Governor end) and park and walk over 195 on the pedestrian bridge (great view from there of the Port of Providence) and down into India Point Park, which is bounded by the Providence River on one side and the Seekonk River on the other.

There is graffitti in the park. My favorite is on a small boulder along the water that has just the word "Loss" in blue drippy letters. It's pensive.

You can access one of the local breweries there at the edge of the park. Or hike on over to explore the tiny eateries and bars on Ives St (but hit it Wed-Sun; some are closed Mon-Tu). It's very spill onto-the-sidewalks in season and has a lowkey lively feel. That will no doubt go away come winter.

Glad you enjoy Providence. So do I 🀝

Just checking: Westerly and Newport ARE in Rhode Island -- you knew that, right?

Roger Williams Park has all these plus some spectacular trees: the greenhouses, especially in February when the citrus trees are in bloom. The Natural History Museum. The Planetarium. The Zoo. In summer, the paddle boats. In June the rose garden.

One year there were just three of us so we went to a buffet put on by Johnson & Wales in a banquet hall not far from Providence (but I don't recall where). It was spectacular -- very fancy and exceptionally good food.

Maybe contact Johnson & Wales to find out if they still do it? This was probably 20 years ago.

Ah yes. I grew up in MA. And that applies to all of the Northeast pretty much, right? There was a flight to the south and west when manufacturing became much cheaper there (before most of it then moved out of the US altogether). Like mens shirts and all knitwear -- they used to be made in New England and first moved to the sunbelt before going offshore.

(And of course, nearly all of RI's jewelry manufacturing, which I think went from here straight to China/SE Asia 😣)

Again, much appreciate these insights 🀝
