So let me try to tie it together.

  1. The reason the rent is rising is because there is an influx of people looking for housing. Cue our supply-demand illustration.

  2. That demand is in part because of the accommodations made to downtown jersey city.

I watched dt become gentrified. No one from nyc was rushing to move to the hood in dt jersey city. There were shootings every week. Developers saw the potential in the less than ideal environment and built luxury apts and promoted brownstones on the strength of the nyc commute, skyline and probably financial incentives from the mayor.

They were able to charge a comparable rate to lesser quality apts in nyc which lured the population like the gold rush.

This is where my first comment stems from. The people that moved here during the early gentrification stage played a role in kicking out the locals because they established a demand that incentivized developers to keep building and expanding.

I was implying that the same process is happening again which I thought was ironic for them to complain about.

It depends how much your deductible is.

If you already spent $1,100 and your deductible is $500, you’d be spending $1,600 altogether because they won’t refund you for what you spent. On top of that, the insurance company is going to put you at fault because he had the right of way which guarantees that your premium will go up.

If you spent $1,100 and your insurance is $1,000 don’t contact your insurance whatsoever. Not even to inquire because they can still raise your premium (albeit less) with this information.

Regardless, it seems like his car is fixed and he’s being a douche. I would keep the receipts from whatever you spent and tell him to see you in court if he wants more out of you.

The other alternative is to pay the other $1100 but to me that’s excessive to pay $2200 to fix his car with the amount of damage you’re describing. I highly recommend telling him you can settle it in court. I don’t want to see you get taken advantage of.

Perhaps he understood that he could be apprehended in the city where he committed the murder so he did what anyone who doesn’t intend on being caught would do and left the city?

Same with the taqueria guy. I’m certain cops are checking his frequently visited spots in JC. But I highly doubt JCPD is working highway patrol in Kearny looking for him.
