Costing the city $1.5 Million for his bad conduct, over 50 substantiated incidents of bad conduct and he was promoted and allowed to retire without a word against him by the NYPD or the city as a whole. When the conservatives on this sub start demanding that cops like these be held accountable, then I’ll start believing their complaints against people being released after 50 arrests are being made in good faith.

That’s the thing about humans, our feeling don’t often align with probabilities. People are often too distracted when they should be fearful and too fearful when they don’t have much to worry about. I don’t deny that there are scary people on the subway and others that will make you feel uncomfortable. But we’ve also had 199 traffic fatalities this year through last week.

If the NY Post covered every traffic fatality the way they cover crime and micro mobility advocates posted on this sub like the conservatives post, you’d see people expressing the same fear about cars on the road and how drivers are a menace.

I’m not implying anything. It’s just a fact, even if it makes people uncomfortable, that NYC is the most segregated school district in the country. I think some of that is due to voluntary actions by parents and some of that is due to DoE policies that influence which students can attend which schools. Even if it was 100% due to actions by parents, it indicates a problem.

No, the stats don’t say otherwise. The statement was “I think crime is nearly nonexistent in the average person’s daily life. . . “

The stats show crime is increasing. But, they don’t show that they’re a part of the average person’s daily life. I’m guessing that will be somewhat influenced by the neighborhood you live in.

Ok, but they committed a crime that may have let an armed criminal back on the streets. The testimony happened in 2016, so I think the statute of limitations has passed to prosecute them. At a very minimum they should no longer cops if only to send a message to other police officers that lying under oath is not acceptable.

Sewell’s excuse about “training” has to be a joke.

So the city is on the hook for any amount of money shy of $1 Billion from congestion pricing. If those communities served by MNR and LIRR want to collectively chip in 20% for any shortage, then I’m all for spending money on those items. If the city is solely responsible for any shortage then the city transit should be the sole benefactor of any proceeds.
