  • Hiram’s in Fort Lee
  • The grill at Hominy Hill Golf Course in Colts Neck. Haven’t been there in a while, but I thought their deep fried hot dog was better than Hiram’s. I looked forward to getting a hot dog coming around the front nine.

Reply to Move over... by JS_NYC_208

red and yellow have not concept of maintaining a safety cushion / escape route in case of an emergency. you should never be side to side with another vehicle for more than 3-5 sec, especially when approaching interchanges where vehicles are merging on to your direction of travel.

this type of driving also promotes right lane hugger/speeders who weave in and out and speed on the right lane. often times, people trying to exit/move over to the right are caught unaware of vehicles approaching/trying to pass on the right causing accidents. often times, the fast vehicle on the right are never involved in these accidents as the vehicle trying to move right will over correct to the left, lose control, get hit by vehicle(s) in the passing and travel lanes.

10pm intl arrival means you won't clear immigration/customs until 2330-2400. you might be better off staying on airport grounds (i.e. Newark Liberty International Airpot Marriott) to sleep and get an early start. this is the only on site hotel. you need to take shuttles to surrounding hotels and they/neighborhoods are iffy (i.e. holiday inn and doubletree are next to the state prison). note, most, if not all car rental companies are outside of airport grounds, so you need to take their shuttle.

not much to see on the NJ Turnpike to south NJ. If you plan on taking the garden state parkway, you can detour to sandy hook national park for nyc views, seaside heights/boardwalk attractions, ocean city, wildwood/boardwalk attractions.

if you are staying around cape may, take a day ferry trip to delaware by dewey beach, bethany beach and rehoboth beach. stop by their roadside shacks for trays of steamed blue crabs.

you can purchase parking in advance online to save $. usually the economy lot is the best deal, but sometimes, parking deck is available at the same discounted price. the shuttle buses to the economy lot run pretty frequently.

depending on length of trip, car service might end up being cheaper than parking.

not sure how hold the 'seniors' are, but it might be best to use a car service rather than drive themselves to the airport and drag their luggage from parking lot to perhaps air train and to the terminal.

drive from from nj to jfk can be stressful even for an experienced driver with good reflexes given traffic volume, sometimes narrow lanes, short merges and bad signage.

My favorites:

- Ice House in Hackensack (fully enclosed, multiple rinks)

- Mackay in Englewood (partially enclosed)

- Fritz Dietl in Westwood (enclosed but small/intimate rink). Head over to Iron Horse Restaurant afterwards just down the road for pub food.

Further away is the Ice Vault in Wayne, or Palisades Center Ice Rink at Palisades Center in West Nyack.

The doctors going to fine dining and wearing fancy clothes are in specialties that do not accept insurance or in discretionary medical services (i.e. cosmetic/plastic surgery, dermatology, cosmetic dentistry) Ones in primary care live like any other middle/upper middle income folks.

Doctors trained in foreign countries being required to go through residency/fellowship in the US is not a bad thing. It establishes an expected minimal level care, normalizes the standard of treatment as well as provides foreign trained doctors plenty of supervised training dealing with illnesses seen in the host country. This way, a doctor trained in Vanuatu, Palau or Switzerland can provide you with the same level of care as ones trained in the US.

love filipino food, but some comments:

- many filipino restaurants i've been to (outside of NYC) close early...like 7pm...8pm. many times, you have to be seated by 530pm because that's when the kitchens start closing down.

- some places call them "restaurants", but they are more like turo turo serving food on styrofoam plates/bowls serving luke warm food.

- when you order kare kare in most sit down table service restaurants, they use frozen/band saw cut oxtail that comes out dry and crumbly. you rarely find fresh whole oxtails being used

when we try new filipino restaurants, we test them by ordering some of the following:

- lumpiang shanghai

- kare kare

- crispy pata

- pinakbet

- sisig

- pancit

- halo halo

"Carl E. Heastie, a Bronx Democrat who serves as Assembly speaker, expressed support for the raise earlier this month, suggesting that just coming to Albany is enough to justify a boost in pay. “People don’t realize the sacrifice that they make being away from their families,” Mr. Heastie said. “I don’t think there’s enough money in the world that could compensate you for being away from your families.”"
Hey, you became a politician out of your own free will. Perhaps he should resign from assembly immediately and get a private sector job instead.
All political positions should pay lower than prevailing wage to encourage turnover and new ideas. Perhaps it will attract diehard do-gooders. Politicians have gotten way too comfortable in their positions and lost touch with their constituents.

just typical things like:

- fully charge portable chargers for phone

- charge up ev

- double check we have enough food/junk food to last 48hrs

- get foul weather gear ready to walk the dog in the cyclone

- salt the driveway/walkway

- and of course, a spot of tea

mrs and i went out to costco for last min items. within 90 min, temp went from 37F/2.8C down to 29F/-1.7C. people were speeding as usual so stuck to the slow lane and took it easy.

it think the worst is yet to come as all the water on the tree branches and power lines freeze.
