It's not really to do with the rotation of the earth, the iss is moving across the face of the earth which moves the thunderstorm straight left, but it's also rotating as it orbits to keep the same side facing earth, so relative to the background stars it is rotating, getting the curved trails.

If you saw a rock monster with an unpleasant face you could call it an ugly rock monster and it wouldn't be illogical.
It refers to humans as water based presumably because it's different to what they are, not because they are so advanced beyond the need for visuals.

Kinda weird that it doesn't show sea ice in the arctic, or around Antarctica, but doesn't include the fact that Antarctica is an archipelago held together by sea ice so should really look like this
