I'm suggesting not letting people ride who are not riders and don't pay 2.50 to get on the system. Pretty simple. The transit system is not and should not be used as temp housing, an asylum, a toilet, an injection site, and a smoking room. Then I'm saying that if people are breaking rules actively, like smoking, pushing carts, panhandling, sleeping, using drugs, tenting up, they should be removed without citation or criminal charge.

Of course we have systemic issues that need to be dealt with. I'm not sure if declaring an "emergency" will do that, but if it brings resources and is followed by political action then sure, fine.

We clearly need a program like MANDATORY SHELTER AND TREATMENT, which is the obvious answer to a lot of issues.

I've said it before. There's no political will to do the ONLY thing that will work, and that is remove and exclude the zombies and shitbirds from the system. No need to ticket, just a yeah, buddy, you gotta go, bye. And then don't let them back into the system Of course you'll need manpower and the will to actually do so. Firm payment barriers would be a great start, and would do 90% of the work. Like a design that would make it really really difficult, if not impossible to not pay and get on the platforms, or even stairs going into the system.

It's pathetic and telling that although council claims to support and protect the "community", which is ostensibly minority communities and poor communities, even though these communities utilize public transit, especially buses and the el/sub more than ANY other demographic, when it comes down to it, they really listen to people wealthy enough to have cars and loud enough to show up at community meetings and/or email their Councilpersons.

NO ONE on council challenges the auto first narrative this city has pushed for nigh on 70 years, a narrative that has contributed to much destruction of architecture, history, and critical transit infrastructure(mostly by neglect). The one project that was transformative(the connector project) mainly benefited relatively more wealthy suburban commuters. Every single one of them is a pussy who claims they're concerned about climate change, and want to promote a walkable, transit connected city, but most of what they actually do promotes the opposite.

It's very frustrating.

The only reason this person walked away with 50k is that he was willing to spend 50k, and had it to spend. It sucks. This is why you gotta get ahead of it at.

Fuckin lawyers. Pretrial motions, motions in limine, motions to dismiss, expert witnesses, depositions, discovery, statements of fact, opposing statements of fact, motions upon motions, it adds up. A civil case right now can take years to get to trial.

IANAL

Not exactly how it works. You'd think so, but only if it goes to trial, and believe it or not, trial can cost 30k. Hell the lead up to trial can cost 30k. I'm familiar with a similar case, but more damage, lawyers racked up 50k in the year of litigation. Parties agreed to settle for 100k. Person took home 50k. If it had gone to trial, would have cost even more, but there's no guarantee a jury would award that much.

Vast majority of these cases are settled.

When a developer puts a shovel into your land without permission you step the fuck outside and tell 'em to get the fuck off your lawn. If they don't, you call the police. It sucks, but then you gotta get a lawyer.

There's a such thing as a construction easement, and you gotta get in the face of workers and the developers early on in the process, and demand $$ for any incursions into your property. She could have easily demanded thousands beforehand. Now she'll spend thousands on a lawyer too. I've heard of similar easements costing 10k or more. She's got much more than that in damage now, but it will cost here as much money to a lawyer to recoup.

It's kinda nuts to see the population of no libs double. That germantown/2nd/girard area is like a different planet now. Plus the development up 2nd street and down. Add in front and frankford, and lower kenzo is being transformed as well. So many projects will be finished by the end of next year, all within 15 blocks x 5 blocks or so. Good shit

I agree. It comes down to that in a country of 300 million people, not everyone wants to live in fucking Arizona. There's millions that want to live in an actual large city, one with history and authenticity and walkability-A compact urban environment. There's not very many cities that fit that bill. And there's only a couple that sit on the main rail line between DC and Boston. If you want a compact urban environment, Chicago is kinda the only other spot that competes with the NEC, but it's in its own league and the center of its own nexus. Seattle ain't the bid, LA is it's own planet, and SF is out of reach and on the west coast. Certain types of people go to California. It's a whole different planet. A different kind of asshole ends up in Florida or Texas or Arizona. The NEC is mega city one, and we've got the nation's capital plus NYC within spitting distance.

I've been saying for years Philly has a bright future, despite the best efforts of leaders to fuck it up. And in general the rumors of the death of cities (during the pandemic) was wildly fucking exaggerated. We're sorting ourselves out, is all.

As long as the cameras are placed equitably and equally, there's not much more you can do. Most of these stories are about how some cameras are on relatively unused roads, high concentrations in low income areas, etc. CC is a no brainer, cameras everywhere, south to callowhill. Outside of that, just as many cameras in hunting park as there are in chestnut hill, and we'd be on the right track

Also, don't speed. If you're low income, maybe, not speeding in your blacked out charger is a good idea. I think
