No. Not buying it. There's such a thing as substantive incompatibility in data and the author is always responsible for that. The responses above about rrends in reporting crime and what falls into property and violent crime buckets are spot on.

According to your findings, there is 2x the amount of property and violent crime (combined) in Canada vs US. I'll grant Canada could surprise me and be higher. But 2x?

If I presented this to a professional audience (which I do for a living) there would some serious skepticism from the audience. Not buying this analysis without some real explanations about the reliability of data sources, timings (3 yr diff), and so on.

I'm honestly glad you are looking to this data. However, you keep posting these scatter plots without any SUBSTANTIVE findings. In your explanatory text you said alot but didn't provide the actual SUBSTANTIVE findings. What did you learn about Repubs and Dems, incarceration and so on through this exercise?

This is a great answer. Been in Philly 20 yrs now. My wife and I lived in DC for years and I still travel down for work. I adore all that DC has to offer but the traffic and cost of living are just absurd. Your 5% percent pay cut will be offset by lower housing costs.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the Philly vibe. People here take the Philly grit and spirit much more seriously than you find in DC. Not many people in DC are actually from DC and it doesn't have the working class roots you find in Philly. I love the chip on Philly's shoulder, but it isnt for everybody.

The SAT is a load of horse-ahem, anyway. It's not a predictor of intelligence or life outcomes or even college graduation. So much so that many colleges don't even require it, anymore. GPA is a better predictor of college success. And even that has serious limitations, post-Covid.

I get what the author is implying. Just wish they would come out and say instead of (probably) posting back to the thread under another handle.

The careerism these days is exhausting.

Please stop being a nitwit. They are non-profits that are absolutely bankrupting people. Make that last statement makes sense.

Hospitals are just one node in an opaque network of care. That network is opaque, so impenetrable, that they try to make you sign a "I'll pay for anything" waiver before you know what services you will need. They do this so that YOU are the one holding the bag at the end of it all.

It's so bad, in fact, that they can't tell you the cost/prices of procedures even AFTER they do them. Congress has recently mandated that they post costs/prices... and they can't seem to do it.

Shit broke.
