March must be the breaking point for people! The same grandmother I mentioned gave people until March to get their Christmas wreath off the door. We would be in the car and she would point out how “Marian” hasn’t bothered to take her wreath down yet. And it wasn’t unheard of for her to make anonymous calls to such people to give unwanted advice 😆

I spit my coffee laughing at “ancient family feuds!” That is a popular past time in Maine. My grandmother enjoyed her several feuds that lasted at least 50 years 😆

I’m trying to get him to go after them aggressively, but he’s saying now that he’s just going to pay it off. No one listens to me 😆

Two winters ago, my son had a rat infestation (not their fault). The rental company “didn’t believe it” and ignored it. Upon moving appliances, he found old holes filled with steel wool. Only after wires started smoking did the company half assedly have Orkin come in. It just got worse. He warned the company he would have to move. So in the middle of February we moved them out. They left three months before the lease ended. Code enforcement was called, but he did nothing even after sounding concerned. About a year later, they started demanding payment. Then sent the account to a lawyer. My son had pages of texts and documentation, pictures, and videos. He thought it was resolved. He was going through a mortgage process last month and bang. They had sent it to collections. Yes, he could have been more aggressive. But the result of this is moving in the middle of the winter and having his good credit messed up. Like someone said, make this public knowledge and fight like Hell.

I have a kid your age making about the same salary as you. He only has a vehicle payment and his rent is a little less than yours but not much. I feel like he’s doing pretty well. But like others have said, start having something like a five-year plan and specific goals.

Within the city limits of New Orleans, I would say that 20% of the cars have no plates. My daughter said it’s because people don’t bother to do it because they’re so short on cops there that they won’t get stopped, which seems to be the case.
