Hospitals in New York run as legal monopolies/duopolies (except in Manhattan where you have 3 main health systems to choose from.) They have been extorting 12-15% annual increases from insurance company payors for years now. At the same time they make every nurse do the job of 1 1/2 to 2 nurses every day. And while the C suite admins (who make millions) were running off to Florida during the height of Covid in early 2020...the nurses that stuck around to save lives are being asked to take cuts to their health care plans.

NYC RNs deserve at least a 10% raise or they should walk the hell out.

The biggest rule is you can't get close to the net. But of all the times I have actually played pickleball I can't find real consistency in how that's applied. It's like traveling in basketball sometimes you can take like 3 steps and sometimes it results in like 4 people screaming at me.

I don't understand the rules!!!

But they will just be back on the streets in 72 hours up to 15 days. And they just get better at hiding from treatment. That's why a bunch of clinicians were quoted in the Goldstein article yesterday claiming what a poor idea this is. It will likely make the problem worse in the long run. Discharging people back to the street or a homeless shelter while overburdening an already stressed inpatient psych system is a terrible idea. There aren't beds for people who ARE suicidal and homicidal. Now those people will be lined up in ED hallways and on med surg floors because the cops are rounding up the homeless and turning Hospitals in de facto shelters.

We should build the mental health infrastructure people need instead of doing something counter productive that has the potential to break and already fragile system.

There used to be a provision for front line health care workers in public hospitals that tied their pay to a specific list of comparable titles in private hospitals. It was suspended in 2006 by Bloomberg's OLR and has never been reactivated.

As of June 2020, RN license grantees are required to hold a BSN to be hired even as a med surg staff nurse (which wasn't always the case) so I imagine the parity provisions will be back sooner rather than later.

deBlasio asked them to stop targeting black people and then went on an 8 year press campaign against him in the NYPost that made him the least popular mayor in NYC history.

No politician will EVER try to reform the police again. Just like no politician will ever try to embed mental health programs in existing city agencies and services. They all learned what the punishment is from watching deBlasio.

If you go to the ED you will only be held as an inpatient if they determine you are a danger to yourself or others. But in a non life or death situation like psychosis or something very acute - the ED will only tell you to follow up with an outpatient care provider.

One of your best options is NYC Health and Hospitals Express Care system. Go to expresscare.nyc

They take Medicaid or the NYS Essential Plan as payment. If you aren't signed up for either they will help you sign up. If you don't qualify for either and have to pay out of pocket, it's a flat rate of $125. But if you are single parent I think you qualify. Even if you don't have a valid visa or green card - they can help.

Once you have even a telehealth visit with them they can get you in for follow up care and help you manage your mental health. They want to make sure you don't end up in the ED with suicidal ideation.

Take care of yourself, your mental health is as important as your physical health.
