Maybe you need different social circles. It's pretty common knowledge. It's even in central stories of the bible.
I'm still curious what perspective you were hoping to impart on people, comparing middle ages Scandinavia to the USA 150 years ago.

People are aware of the ubiquitous nature of slavery in human history. What was the point you were trying to get across with this comment?

I was just wondering that myself. "Just desserts" is an apt analogy, and I think there is a slight difference between that and schadenfreude.

This is some serious revisionist history. People were claiming everything from MS, to a stroke, to the fact that she was on her deathbed.
There was absolutely a cornucopia of conspiracy theories.

Are you aware that the founding fathers were aware that slavery was morally wrong and acknowledged that they personally benefited from it, which made it difficult to undo?
